ATIP/ATIP1 regulates prostate cancer metastasis through mitochondrial dynamic-dependent signaling.

Mitochondria play a fundamental role in cell survival and motility. Abnormalities in mitochondria are associated with carcinogenesis, especially with tumor metastasis. In this study, we explore the biological function of ATIP1, which is a mitochondrial-located isoform of angiotensin II AT2 receptor interacting proteins (ATIPs) in prostate cancer cells.

Late-onset epilepsy and the risk of dementia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Patients with dementia have higher risk of epilepsy. However, it remains not comprehensively evaluated if late-onset epilepsy (LOE) is associated with higher risk of dementia. We, therefore, performed a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the association.

Consensus statements on the clinical understanding and use of milnacipran in Hong Kong.

Objective: Our aim is to develop a local consensus to guide medical practitioners and psychiatrists on the use of milnacipran in different psychiatric conditions.

Methods: By utilizing the modified Delphi technique, 12 statements were electronically voted on anonymously for their practicability of recommendation.

Results: There was a very high degree of agreement among the consensus group on 10 finalized consensus statements, but 2 statements were voted down due to a poor degree of agreement.

Potential exposure and risk of fluoride intakes from tea drinks produced in Taiwan.

Tea is the second most commonly consumed drink in the world. Excess fluoride intakes from tea drinks may cause health effects. This work assesses infusible fluoride levels in popular tea sold in Taiwan and evaluates potential exposure factors.

Intelligent signal processing for detection system optimization.

A wavelet-neural network signal processing method has demonstrated approximately 10-fold improvement over traditional signal processing methods for the detection limit of various nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from the output of a thermionic detector attached to a gas chromatograph. A blind test was conducted to validate the lower detection limit. All 14 of the compound spikes were detected when above the estimated threshold, including all 3 within a factor of 2 above the threshold.

Identification and quantification of protecting groups remaining in commercial oligonucleotide products using monoclonal antibodies.

Quality control is paramount to reproducibly achieving oligonucleotide therapeutics and diagnostics of superior value. However, incomplete deprotection of nucleoside reactive groups after the automated chemical synthesis of oligonucleotides would result in diminished antisense activity and in erroneous array analysis of gene expression. Mass spectrometry and capillary electrophoresis are used to detect aborted sequences of oligonucleotides, but not to identify and quantify incompletely deprotected oligonucleotides.
