Uropathogens and their antimicrobial-resistant pattern among suspected urinary tract infections patients in eastern Nepal: A hospital inpatients-based study.

Background: Urinary tract infections are the primary factors that cause mortality and morbidity in patients with underlying comorbid conditions and are responsible for most hospital admissions worldwide.

Objectives: The study aims to identify the common bacterial uropathogens and determine their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern, including multidrug-resistant/extensively drug-resistant bacteria.

Methods: The descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among inpatients provisionally suspected of urinary tract infections in the medical ward of Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar, Nepal.

Virulence factors of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) and correlation with antimicrobial resistance.

Background: Escherichia coli has found to be the predominant uropathogen (50-90%) in uncomplicated, community acquired urinary tract infection (UTI). Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) express a multitude of virulence factors, which enable the bacteria to establish UTI. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of different phenotypic virulence markers in UPEC isolates and determine their correlation with antibiotic resistance pattern.

Electronic patient records for dental school clinics: more than paperless systems.

The Electronic Patient Record (EPR) or "computer-based medical record" is defined by the Patient Record Institute as "a repository for patient information with one health-care enterprise that is supported by digital computer input and integrated with other information sources." The information technology revolution coupled with everyday use of computers in clinical dentistry has created new demand for electronic patient records. Ultimately, the EPR should improve health care quality.
