Robotic Surgery in Safety-Net Hospitals: Addressing Health Disparities and Improving Access to Care.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has demonstrated significant clinical and economic benefits that have been consistently validated and reproduced in practice and the literature for the past few decades. These benefits include improved patient outcomes, reduced complications, shorter hospital stays, decreased narcotic use, quicker recovery times, and lower rates of wound infections. However, safety-net hospitals, which historically serve a larger percentage of underserved and marginalized populations, often lack the resources to invest in high capital equipment.

Environmental determinants of health refer to external factors in our surroundings that influence health outcomes. It is estimated that healthier environments could prevent almost one-quarter of the global burden of disease. Additionally, environmental factors, including lifestyle factors, air pollution, chemical exposures, and natural exposures, are responsible for a significant incidence of cancers and premature cancer deaths.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumour in the Afro-Caribbean population: case report with imaging findings.

Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour (DSRCT) is a rare malignancy that has only a few cases documented in the literature. We report a case of DSRCT in the abdomen and pelvis that was identified following ultrasound-guided biopsy of one of the numerous liver lesions seen on imaging in a 13-year-old Afro-Caribbean female with increased abdominal girth. The tumour was characterized by all routine imaging modalities available at the time.
