Background: A direct comparison between glycemic-based and lipid-based insulin sensitivity indices (ISIs) for ECG findings and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality is lacking.
Methods: 963 community-dwelling older adults, examined as part of the third phase of the Glucose intolerance, Obesity, and Hypertension study between 1999 and 2008, were followed until December 2016 and December 2019 for cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, respectively. Eleven different ISIs were calculated and evaluated against ECG findings, all-cause, and cardiovascular mortality with multivariable regression models.
Purpose: Physical activity was previously associated with decreased mortality. Current guidelines recommend >150 min/week or >75 min/week of moderate or high-intensity exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle; however, exercise properties most strongly associated with low mortality among the elderly may still be explored.

Background: Collection of detailed dietary data is labor intensive and expensive, harmonization of existing data sets has been proposed as an effective tool for research questions in which individual studies are underpowered.
Methods: In this paper, we describe the methodology used to retrospectively harmonize nutritional data from multiple sources, based on the individual participant data of all available studies, which collected nutritional data in Israel between 1963 and 2014. This collaboration was established in order to study the association of red and processed meat with colorectal cancer.

Introduction: Lower rates of smoking cessation among disadvantaged groups contribute to widening health-disparities. With this recognition, in 2010 free-of-charge/subsidized smoking cessation services became available to all Israeli residents through the not-for-profit health plans.
Methods: Based on two cross-sectional National Social Surveys, data on adult ever-smokers were used (n = 2,998 in 2010 and 2,859 in 2017).
Vaginitis is a common gynecological problem, nevertheless, its clinical evaluation is often insufficient. This study evaluated the performance of an automated microscope for the diagnosis of vaginitis, by comparison of the investigated test results to a composite reference standard (CRS) of wet mount microscopy performed by a specialist in vulvovaginal disorders, and related laboratory tests. During this single-site cross-sectional prospective study, 226 women reporting vaginitis symptoms were recruited, of which 192 samples were found interpretable and were assessed by the automated microscopy system.

We aimed to evaluate the association between serum uric acid (SUA) with incidental findings of ECG abnormalities and with long-term all-cause mortality.
Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study of 851 community dwelling men and women, who were examined between 1999 and 2008, and followed over 20 years until December 2019 for all-cause mortality.
Background: Elderly individuals are characterized by multimorbidity and high medication intake, entailing risks for adverse events. We examined the overall and sex-specific association of polypharmacy (≥5 drugs concurrently) with 20-year mortality among community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: Survivors of the longitudinal Israel Study of Glucose Intolerance, Obesity, and Hypertension underwent extensive evaluation during 1999-2004, and were followed-up for all-cause mortality until 2019.
Inherited myopathies are a group of disease, which, although distinct from a genetic and prognostic point of view, can lead to non-specific clinical pictures due to phenotypic overlap. Acquired immuno-mediated myopathies may also pose the problem of clinically accurate etiological orientation. The assessment of fatty infiltration and pathological increase in water volume of the muscle contingent on whole-body muscle MRI is becoming increasingly important in aiding the initial diagnosis of inherited and acquired myopathies.

Background: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) has been reported with a high prevalence on mild to moderate COVID-19 patients. Previous reports suggest that volume and signal intensity of olfactory bulbs (OB) have been reported as abnormal on acute phase of COVID-19 anosmia, but a prospective MRI and clinical follow-up study of COVID-19 patients presenting with OD was missing, aiming at understanding the modification of OB during patients'follow-up.
Methods: A prospective multicenter study was conducted including 11 COVID-19 patients with OD.

The current study aimed to assess the Health-Related Quality Of Life (HRQOL) of BC survivors and to investigate the association of comorbidities with HRQOL compared to a group of women with no history of cancer.
