Outcome and complication rate of nasal planectomy reconstructed with direct mucocutaneous apposition.

Nasal planectomy is recommended in cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal planum in dogs and can be curative if excision is complete. Due to the noticeable alteration in appearance inherent in nasal planectomy, several techniques are described for reconstruction. The goal of this study is to report the complication rate and owner satisfaction following nasal planectomy with repair by direct mucocutaneous apposition compared to other reported reconstruction techniques meant to be more cosmetic.

Discrepancy between true distance of tibial tuberosity advancement and cage size: An ex vivo study.

Objective: To determine the discrepancy between true distance of tibial tuberosity advancement (tTTA) and the most commonly used cages. The null hypothesis was that tTTA would be within 1.5 mm difference of the cage size.

Radiographic evaluation and comparison of the patellar ligament following tibial plateau leveling osteotomy and tibial tuberosity advancement in dogs: 106 cases (2009-2012).

OBJECTIVE To radiographically evaluate and compare changes in the patellar ligament of dogs following tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA). DESIGN Retrospective case series. ANIMALS 106 dogs that underwent TPLO (n = 59) or TTA (n = 47) for unilateral rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament at a private veterinary hospital from August 2009 through September 2012.

Inter- and intra-observer variability of radiography and computed tomography for evaluation of Zurich cementless acetabular cup placement ex vivo.

Objective: To evaluate the inter- and intra-observer variability in measurement of the angle of lateral opening (ALO) and version angle measurement using digital radiography and computed tomography (CT).

Methods: Each hemipelvis was implanted with a cementless acetabular cup. Ventrodorsal and mediolateral radiographs were made of each pelvis, followed by CT imaging.

Glenoid dysplasia and osteochondritis dissecans in a cat.

A 2-year-old Maine Coon cat was presented for a right forelimb lameness. Computed tomography of the shoulder revealed a shallow glenoid, osteophyte deposition at the caudal humeral head and medial glenoid, and an intra-articular osseous body. This cat had glenoid dysplasia and osteochondritis dissecans of the glenoid.

Effect of a locking triple pelvic osteotomy plate on screw loosening in 26 dogs.

Objective: To evaluate the complication rate of the double (DPO) and triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) procedure (unilateral and bilateral) with a locking purpose-specific plate.

Study Design: Retrospective case series

Animals: Dogs (n = 26; 38 hips)

Materials: Medical records (January 2007-January 2011) of dogs that had unilateral or bilateral DPO or TPO were evaluated. Signalment, age, body weight, estimated preoperative subluxation and reduction angles, lameness, and complications were evaluated.

Diagnosis and treatment of dynamic closed-mouth jaw locking in a dog.

Case Description: A 5-year-old neutered male English Bulldog was evaluated for intermittent closed-mouth jaw locking of approximately 1 week's duration.

Clinical Findings: Initial physical examination revealed a nonpainful inability to open the jaw with and without manual assistance; however, manipulation of the jaw after the dog was sedated for diagnostic imaging restored jaw function. Anesthesia was subsequently induced, and computed tomography was performed with the jaw open and closed; contrast agent-enhanced images of the closed jaw were also obtained.
