The East Siberian Arctic Shelf holds large amounts of inundated carbon and methane (CH). Holocene warming by overlying seawater, recently fortified by anthropogenic warming, has caused thawing of the underlying subsea permafrost. Despite extensive observations of elevated seawater CH in the past decades, relative contributions from different subsea compartments such as early diagenesis, subsea permafrost, methane hydrates, and underlying thermogenic/ free gas to these methane releases remain elusive.

We report on the gyroscopic effect detection in the bidirectional ultra-short pulse hybridly mode-locked erbium-doped all-fiber ring soliton laser. We report on the stable picosecond and femtosecond pulse generation from the bidirectional erbium-doped all-fiber ring laser hybridly mode-locked with a coaction of a single-walled carbon nanotube-based saturable absorber and nonlinear polarization evolution that was introduced through the insertion of the short-segment polarizing fiber. Depending on the total intracavity dispersion value, the laser emits conservative solitons, transform-limited Gaussian pulses, or highly chirped stretched pulses with almost 20 nm wide parabolic spectrum in both clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) directions of the ring. Owing to the polarizing action in the cavity, we have demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, an efficient tuning of soliton pulse characteristics for both CW and CCW channels via an appropriate polarization control.

Sustained release of methane (CH(4)) to the atmosphere from thawing Arctic permafrost may be a positive and significant feedback to climate warming. Atmospheric venting of CH(4) from the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (ESAS) was recently reported to be on par with flux from the Arctic tundra; however, the future scale of these releases remains unclear. Here, based on results of our latest observations, we show that CH(4) emissions from this shelf are likely to be determined by the state of subsea permafrost degradation.

Purpose: The purpose was to measure the concentrations of various cytokines and growth factors (including vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF] and pigment epithelium-derived factor [PEDF]) in the vitreous of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and to investigate interaction between inflammatory and proliferative factors in the genesis of PDR. Materials and Methods : Vitreous samples from 32 eyes with PDR and 25 eyes without diabetes mellitus and signs of DR (control) were collected. Vitreous concentrations of VEGF, PEDF, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A, and secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) were simultaneously measured using enzyme-linked immunoassay.

A soliton-type erbium-doped all-fiber ring laser hybrid mode-locked with a co-action of arc-discharge single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and nonlinear polarization evolution (NPE) is demonstrated. For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, boron nitride-doped SWCNTs were used as a saturable absorber for passive mode-locking initiation. The goal of this study was to assess the informative yield of modem radiology diagnostic (endorectal and intraoperative sonography, spiral computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging) and three-dimensional modeling methods in patients with rectal cancer. The effectiveness of postoperative immune-modulating therapy (Neovir and Betaleukin) was also evaluated. The aforementioned techniques contributed to an adequate preoperative selection of surgical treatment and allowed reducing the incidence of postoperative complications.

An investigation of the information value of modern radial methods of diagnostics (endorectal and intraoperative sonography, spiral computed and magnetic resonance imaging) and Power Shape program for three- dimensional modeling in 150 patients with rectum cancer has shown their significance in the assessment of prevalence of the tumor process, invasion of the tumor into the rectum wall, its spreading in the intestinal wall, involvement in the tumor process of the pararectal fat and adjacent to the rectum organs of the small pelvis, the presence of signs of metastases to the regional lymph nodes. These methods of X-ray analyses and three- dimensional computed modeling of the tumor process of the rectum facilitate preoperative decision on the adequate volume of surgery.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) plays an important role in infectious human morbidity, particularly in Russia and the Middle Urals. The Siberian subtype of TBEV (S-TBEV) is dominant in the Middle Urals. Determining the origin of S-TBEV strains in this territory and also in the European part of Russia and the Baltic countries is very important for understanding the cause of its distribution.
