Background: Therapeutic and salutogenic effects of psychedelic drugs have been attributed to psychotherapeutic or psychotherapy-like processes that can unfold during the acute psychedelic experience and beyond. Currently, there are no psychometric instruments available to comprehensively assess psychotherapeutic processes (as conceptualized by empirical psychotherapy research) in the context of psychedelic experiences.

Aims: We report the initial validation of the General Change Mechanisms Questionnaire (GCMQ), a self-report instrument designed to measure five empirically established general change mechanisms (GCMs) of psychotherapy-(1) resource activation, (2) therapeutic relationship, (3) problem actuation, (4) clarification, and (5) mastery-in the context of psychedelic experiences.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a primary myocardial disease, leading to heart failure and excessive risk of sudden cardiac death with rather poorly understood pathophysiology. In 2015, Parvari's group identified a recessive mutation in the autophagy regulator, PLEKHM2 gene, in a family with severe recessive DCM and left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC). Fibroblasts isolated from these patients exhibited abnormal subcellular distribution of endosomes, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes and had impaired autophagy flux.

The COVID-19 pandemic and resultant health crisis highlighted the lack of scholarly understanding of the effects of sociocultural factors and religious beliefs on compliance with public health guidelines. Orthodox Jews in particular were suspected of mistrusting medical experts and were singled out for alleged non-compliance with COVID-19 health guidelines. We surveyed American Jews (N = 1,141) during the early stages of the pandemic about their religious beliefs connected with the pandemic, trust in relevant public figures, and compliance with health guidelines to examine whether and how these factors are related.

Given links between stress and obesity, it is likely that individuals gained weight during the COVID-19 lockdown. Research suggests that religiosity facilitates coping, which may have lessened the relationship between stress and weight gain during the COVID-19 lockdown. We examined this relationship among Orthodox Jews (n = 731).

Article Synopsis
  • A 14-year-old patient with RDH5 mutations was diagnosed with fundus albipunctatus, exhibiting known and novel genetic changes in the RDH5 gene.
  • The patient's visual acuity was perfect (20/20), but they experienced nyctalopia and abnormal electroretinogram (ERG) results, indicating issues with both scotopic and photopic vision.
  • Imaging techniques revealed characteristic fuzzy autofluorescence patterns and thickening in the photoreceptor outer segment, corresponding to the observed retinal flecks.

Attachment theory deals with the development and dynamics of interpersonal affectional bonds. It also provides a framework for understanding individuals' relationship with God, which is central to religion. We review basic concepts of attachment theory and survey research that has examined religion both in terms of normative attachment processes and individual differences in attachment.

Religious coping is prevalent among individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders, however its clinical relevance has been insufficiently studied. Thirty ultra-Orthodox Jewish patients experiencing current psychotic symptoms and receiving treatment in the inpatient and day-care units were administered measures assessing severity of psychotic symptoms, psychological distress/well-being, beliefs about treatment credibility/expectancy, and aspects of religious belief and coping. Among men, negative religious coping was associated with lower treatment credibility.

In experimental animals with tumors it was studied antitumor activity of spirocyclic hydroxamic acids which could be classified as targeted agents as their target was enzyme histonedeacetylase, which was involved in the neoplastic process. The results showed that the hydroxamic acids were chemosensitizers for anticancer agents increasing their efficacy and enabling the researchers to reduce significantly the therapeutic dose. Also it was showed that hydroxamic acid, containing nitrogen mustard, was effective in the action on tumors with phenotype and genotype of multidrug resistance.

Background: Hyperphosphatemic acidosis and severe electrolyte disturbances caused by phosphate salts (PO) used for mechanical bowel preparation have been described in occasional case reports prior to bowel resection surgery. We hypothesized that PO used preoperatively for bowel preparation may cause more pronounced acid base and electrolyte changes than polyethylene glycol (PG).

Methods: Forty American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status II-III patients were randomly allocated to receive either PO or PG for bowel preparation before intra-abdominal surgery (bowel resection or other major elective intra-abdominal surgeries).

The studies covered 35 subjects with chronic cholecystitis who had to work in radionuclide-contaminated territory. There appeared changes in examinees' lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defense systems. These were more pronounced in leukocytes, possibly due to direct action of radiation on cell membrane, and may contribute to disease chronicity and recurrences.

Oxidation of acetates of allyl and 2-(benzyloxycarbonylamino)ethyl beta-cellobiosides (with OH-4' and OH-6' unprotected) with the Jones reagent followed by esterification (with diazomethane or phenyldiazomethane) gave corresponding uronates with OH-4' unsubstituted. Condensation of these glycosyl acceptors and benzylated derivatives of D-galactose or 4-O-(alpha-D-glucopyranosyl)-D-galactose led to the protected tri- and tetrasaccharide fragments of the capsular polysaccharide from Streptococcus pneumoniae type 8.
