Identification of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and stability analysis of THC@HP-β-CD inclusion complex: A comprehensive computational study.

Complexing medications with cyclodextrins can enhance their solubility and stability. In this study, we investigated the host-guest complexation between Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) and Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP-D3/TPZ level of theory in two possible orientations. To determine the reactive sites in both complexes for electrophilic and nucleophilic attacks, we calculated and interpreted the binding energy, HOMO and LUMO orbitals, global chemical reactivity descriptors, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, and Fukui indices.

Persistence of spike protein at the skull-meninges-brain axis may contribute to the neurological sequelae of COVID-19.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with long-lasting neurological symptoms, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Using optical clearing and imaging, we observed the accumulation of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in the skull-meninges-brain axis of human COVID-19 patients, persisting long after viral clearance. Further, biomarkers of neurodegeneration were elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid from long COVID patients, and proteomic analysis of human skull, meninges, and brain samples revealed dysregulated inflammatory pathways and neurodegeneration-associated changes.

Social media addiction and personality dimensions among Tunisian medical students.

Purpose: Social media (SM) has become a common activity for today's young people. It is sometimes overused and potentially results in SM addiction. This study aims to assess SM addiction and its associated factors in medical students and to examine its relationship with dimensions of personality global self-esteem, and social self-esteem.

T cell-mediated microglial activation triggers myelin pathology in a mouse model of amyloidosis.

Age-related myelin damage induces inflammatory responses, yet its involvement in Alzheimer's disease remains uncertain, despite age being a major risk factor. Using a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease, we found that amyloidosis itself triggers age-related oligodendrocyte and myelin damage. Mechanistically, CD8 T cells promote the progressive accumulation of abnormally interferon-activated microglia that display myelin-damaging activity.

Crystal structure reinvestigation and spectroscopic analysis of tricadmium orthophosphate.

Single crystals of tricadmium orthophosphate, Cd(PO), have been synthesized successfully by the hydro-thermal route, while its powder form was obtained by a solid-solid process. The corresponding crystal structure was determined using X-ray diffraction data in the monoclinic space group 2/. The crystal structure consists of CdO or CdO dimers linked together by PO tetra-hedra through sharing vertices or edges.

Loss of phospholipase PLAAT3 causes a mixed lipodystrophic and neurological syndrome due to impaired PPARγ signaling.

Phospholipase A/acyltransferase 3 (PLAAT3) is a phospholipid-modifying enzyme predominantly expressed in neural and white adipose tissue (WAT). It is a potential drug target for metabolic syndrome, as Plaat3 deficiency in mice protects against diet-induced obesity. We identified seven patients from four unrelated consanguineous families, with homozygous loss-of-function variants in PLAAT3, who presented with a lipodystrophy syndrome with loss of fat varying from partial to generalized and associated with metabolic complications, as well as variable neurological features including demyelinating neuropathy and intellectual disability.

Finite-time complete periodic synchronization of memristive neural networks with mixed delays.

In this paper we study the oscillatory behavior of a new class of memristor based neural networks with mixed delays and we prove the existence and uniqueness of the periodic solution of the system based on the concept of Filippov solutions of the differential equation with discontinuous right-hand side. In addition, some assumptions are determined to guarantee the globally exponentially stability of the solution. Then, we study the adaptive finite-time complete periodic synchronization problem and by applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, a new adaptive controller and adaptive update rule have been developed.

Sex-specific microglia state in the Neuroligin-4 knock-out mouse model of autism spectrum disorder.

Neuroligin-4 (NLGN4) loss-of-function mutations are associated with monogenic heritable autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and cause alterations in both synaptic and behavioral phenotypes. Microglia, the resident CNS macrophages, are implicated in ASD development and progression. Here we studied the impact of NLGN4 loss in a mouse model, focusing on microglia phenotype and function in both male and female mice.

Development of an Innovative Glass/Stainless Steel/Polyamide Commingled Yarn for Fiber-Metal Hybrid Composites.

Fiber-metal hybrid composites are widely used in high-tech industries due to their unique combination of mechanical, toughness and ductile properties. Currently, hybrid materials made of metals and high-performance fibers have been limited to layer-by-layer hybridization (fiber-metal laminates). However, layer-by-layer hybridization lacks in fiber to fiber mixing, resulting in poor inter-laminar interfaces.

Effects of Pumpkin ( L.) Seed Protein on Blood Pressure, Plasma Lipids, Leptin, Adiponectin, and Oxidative Stress in Rats with Fructose-Induced Metabolic Syndrome.

This study evaluates the potential effects of pumpkin seeds protein on blood pressure (BP), plasma adiponectin, leptin levels, and oxidative stress in rats with fructose-induced metabolic syndrome. Twenty four male Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups and fed a 20% casein diet, 20% casein diet supplemented with pumpkin protein, 20% casein diet with 64% D-fructose, or 20% casein diet with pumpkin protein and 64% D-fructose for 8 weeks. Contin-uous fructose feeding induced an increase in plasma insulin/glucose ratio, BP, insulin and glucose, aspartate aminotrans-ferase, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), creatinine, urea, and uric acid levels, and a decrease in the liver and muscle glycogen stores.

COVID-19-induced acute kidney injury in critically ill patients: epidemiology, risk factors, and outcome.

Background: The kidney represents a potential target for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Clinical data about acute kidney injury (AKI) during SARS-CoV-2 infection are lacking. We aimed to investigate the proportion, risk factors, and prognosis of AKI in critical patients affected with SARS-CoV-2.

Crystal structure of SrCo(OH)(PO), a new hy-droxy-phosphate.

Single crystals of strontium tetra-cobalt tris-(orthophosphate) hydroxide, SrCo(OH)(PO), were grown serendipitously under hydro-thermal conditions at 473 K. The crystal structure consists of undulating chains of edge-sharing [CoO] octa-hedra that are linked into (010) layers by common vertices between chains. Adjacent layers are linked along [010] into a framework structure by tetra-hedral [CoO] units and by PO tetra-hedra.

Depression Prevalence in Neuropathic Pain and Its Impact on the Quality of Life.

Introduction: The management of neuropathic pain remains complex, generally because of the psychiatric comorbidity that is often underdiagnosed. The objectives of our work were to determine the link between depression and the characteristics of NP on the one hand and quality of life on the other hand, in a sample of subjects consulting for neuropathic pain (NP) regardless of etiology.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 61 neuropathic pain consulting patients in whom we assessed five parameters, namely, neuropathic pain based on DN4, pain intensity using EVA, anxiety, and depression according to the HADS and quality of life.

Novel Corona virus disease infection in Tunisia: Mathematical model and the impact of the quarantine strategy.

Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an extremely serious infection with an extremely high death rate worldwide. In March, the disease was declared a "global pandemic" by the World Health Organization (WHO). Until now, there is no known vaccine or drug, since the unknown things related to the disease are more important than our theoretical and empirical knowledge.

[Incidence and risk factors of depression after a first coronary acute syndrome: A prospective study among 110 patients].

Aim: The purpose of this study was to estimate the incidence of post-acute coronary syndrome (ACS) depression and to identify predictive factors for the onset of this disorder.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a prospective, multicentric study across four cardiology departments, during the period from June to December 2018. A depressive symptom screening was performed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, in-hospital (T0) and on average 42.

Morbidity and mortality outcomes in neonates who were transferred from home and hospitals to the only neonatal intensive care unit in Guinea: a descriptive report using routinely collected health data.

Background: The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for neonatal mortality has identified its reduction as one of the main targets to be achieved by 2030. We provide a descriptive report on neonatal outcomes from the only neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Guinea.

Methods: Data collection took place between November 2004 and May 2005 at the NICU of the Institute of Child Health in the capital, Conakry.

Self-organization in aggregating robot swarms: A DW-KNN topological approach.

In certain swarm applications, where the inter-agent distance is not the only factor in the collective behaviours of the swarm, additional properties such as density could have a crucial effect. In this paper, we propose applying a Distance-Weighted K-Nearest Neighbouring (DW-KNN) topology to the behaviour of robot swarms performing self-organized aggregation, in combination with a virtual physics approach to keep the robots together. A distance-weighted function based on a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic (SPH) interpolation approach, which is used to evaluate the robot density in the swarm, is applied as the key factor for identifying the K-nearest neighbours taken into account when aggregating the robots.

Prognostic and Predictive Factors of Ebola Virus Disease Outcome in Elderly People during the 2014 Outbreak in Guinea.

Elderly people occupy a prominent position in African societies; however, their potential linkage to high case fatality rate (CFR) in Ebola virus disease (EVD) was often overlooked. We describe the predictive factors for EVD lethality in the elderly. A total of 2,004 adults and 309 elderly patients with confirmed EVD were included in the analysis.

Ebola virus disease in children during the 2014-2015 epidemic in Guinea: a nationwide cohort study.

Unlabelled: The most recent epidemic of Ebola virus disease (EVD) has resulted in more than 11,000 deaths in West Africa. It has threatened child health in the affected countries, including Guinea. This nationwide retrospective cohort study included all children under 20 years of age with laboratory-confirmed EVD in Guinea during the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak for analysis.

The predictor of mortality outcome in adult patients with Ebola virus disease during the 2014-2015 outbreak in Guinea.

The purpose of this study was to examine the association of any demographic and clinical factors with mortality outcome among adult patients with Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Guinea. This retrospective observational study analyzed medical records of laboratory confirmed EVD adult patients during the 2014-2015 EVD outbreak in Guinea. The associations between any demographic or clinical variables and mortality outcome of EVD were assessed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses.

[Cervico-facial traumatic injuries at the Donka national hospital of the teaching hospital of Conakry].

The Cervico-Facial Traumatic Injuries (CFTI) can entrain complications and serious aesthetic and functional sequella. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of CFTI, to describe the clinical forms and to evaluate the treatment. It was a prospective study conducted from February to July 2010 in the National Donka hospital of the Teaching Hospital of Conakry.

Miliary osteoma cutis of the face.

Background: Miliary osteoma cutis (OC) of the face is a rare benign extra skeletal bone formation. For our knowledge, only 23 cases have been reported in the English literature. These lesions may be primary or secondary.
