Liver is one of the major organs in vertebrates and hepatocytes are damaged by many factors. The liver cell maintenance and multiplication after injury and treatment gained immense interest. The present study investigated the role of Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) coupled with chitosan nanoparticles in the functional regulation of Gamma aminobutyric acid B and 5-hydroxy tryptamine 2A receptors mediated cell signaling mechanisms, extend of DNA methylation and superoxide dismutase activity during enhanced liver cell proliferation.

Aim Of The Study: Gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptors are the principal mediators of synaptic inhibition in striatal neurons and play an important role in preventing the spreading of seizures through the striatum. In the present study, effect of Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennel and its active component bacoside-A on spatial recognition memory deficit and alterations of GABA receptor in the striatum of epileptic rats were investigated.

In the present study we investigated the role of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and 5-HT1A receptor during liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH) and N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) induced hepatocellular carcinoma in male Wistar rats. 5-HT content was significantly increased during liver regeneration after PH and NDEA induced hepatocellular carcinoma. Scatchard analysis using 8-OH-DPAT, a 5-HT1A specific agonist showed a decreased receptor during liver regeneration after PH and NDEA induced hepatocellular carcinoma.
