Association Between Prostate Cancer Detection Rate and Year of Prostate Biopsy.

As the prostate cancer (PCa) detection rate in South Korea is increasing year by year, authors investigated whether there was a plausible relationship between the year the prostate biopsy (PBx) was performed and the PCa detection rate. The medical records of 1628 patients who underwent PBx between 2008 and 2022, for each even-numbered year, were retrospectively reviewed. The primary outcome was the PCa detection rate, and the secondary outcome was to determine whether the PCa detection rate was significantly associated with the year of PBx and other clinical factors.

Patient satisfaction and feasibility with a novel drug-injectable urethral catheter set for hyaluronic acid administration: a multicenter randomized trial.

Reducing the risk of urethral strictures after transurethral surgery for patients with bladder cancer requires effective strategies. We compared the clinical outcomes of a novel drug-injectable urethral catheter set (NIUS) with hyaluronic acid (HA) with those of the conventional intraurethral HA injection method. This six-center, prospective, randomized, single-blind trial included 192 male patients aged ≥ 20 years scheduled to undergo transurethral surgery.

Riding safety Evaluation of food delivery motor scooters based on Associating Sensor-based riding behavior and road traffic characteristics.

The safety of motor scooters used to deliver food has come under scrutiny due to the growing popularity of food delivery services in Republic of Korea. Policymakers have been tasked with investigating and identifying the factors associated with scooter safety to prevent accidents and develop mitigating strategies. A comprehensive analysis of the components of road traffic influencing the safety of motor scooters has received little attention to date.

Testosterone Replacement in Men with Sexual Dysfunction: An Abridged Version of the Cochrane Systematic Review.

Purpose: To assess the effects of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) compared to placebo or other medical treatments in men with sexual dysfunction.

Materials And Methods: We performed a comprehensive search with no restrictions on publication language or status up to 29 August 2023. We only included randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Pneumovesical vesicovaginal fistula repair: Lessons learned from an initial series of 25 patients.

Objectives: This study aims to share the experiences and outcomes of laparoscopic pneumovesical repair for vesicovaginal fistulas (VVF).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of medical records from a single institution over 10 years was conducted. The focus was on patients who underwent VVF repair using a pneumovesical approach with three 5 mm laparoscopic ports.

Decision regret after prostate biopsy for prostate cancer diagnosis: a Korean multicenter cohort study.

Background: Many people struggle with the choice in a series of processes, from prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis to treatment. We investigated the degree of regret after the prostate biopsy (PBx) and relevant factors in patients recommended for biopsy for suspected PCa.

Methods: From 06/2020 to 05/2022, 198 people who performed PBx at three institutions were enrolled and analyzed through a questionnaire before and after biopsy.

Testosterone replacement in men with sexual dysfunction.

Background: Clinical practice guidelines recommend testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for men with sexual dysfunction and testosterone deficiency. However, TRT is commonly promoted in men without testosterone deficiency and existing trials often do not clearly report participants' testosterone levels or testosterone-related symptoms. This review assesses the potential benefits and harms of TRT in men presenting with complaints of sexual dysfunction.

Effect of Diabetes Mellitus on Symptomatic Improvement After Surgery for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia in Patients With Lower Urinary Tract Symptom and its Relations With Prostatic Urethral Angulation.

Purpose: To compare improvement of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia in diabetic versus nondiabetic patients after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP).

Methods: The medical records of 437 patients who underwent TURP or HoLEP at a tertiary referral center from January 2006 to January 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 71 patients had type 2 diabetes.

A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Bridging Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Vibegron in Treating Korean Patients With Overactive Bladder.

Purpose: Vibegron, a novel, potent β3 agonist, has been approved for clinical use in overactive bladder (OAB) treatment in Japan and the Unites States. We performed a bridging study to investigate the efficacy and safety of a daily 50-mg vibegron (code name JLP-2002) dose in Korean patients with OAB.

Methods: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted from September 2020 to August 2021.

Derivation of riding risk precursors using 100 delivery motor scooter naturalistic riding study.

The rapid growth of the delivery service market in Korea due to the impact of COVID-19 has resulted in an increase in crashes associated with delivery motor scooters. In particular, required minimum delivery time, which is an important factor for food delivery service, can lead to hazardous riding situations leading to traffic crashes. Although the food delivery service industry is continuously increasing, effective measures to improve the traffic safety of delivery motor scooters are insufficient.

Clinical significance of prostate volume and testosterone reduction on lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy.

To investigate the effect of both prostate volume and serum testosterone changes on lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy. A total of 167 patients who received androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer treatment from January 2010 to August 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study. Changes in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) in the patient groups stratified by prostate volume and the amount of testosterone reduction were assessed every 4 weeks until 12 weeks after androgen deprivation therapy initiation.

Androgen deprivation therapy and risk of cognitive dysfunction in men with prostate cancer: is there a possible link?

The expansion of the indication to use androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to treat patients with advanced or metastatic prostate cancer has dramatically increased over the recent decades, resulting in the progress of patients' survival. However, chronic health implications can become more apparent as the number of long-term cancer survivors is expected to be increased along with the adverse effect of ADT. In particular, interest in investigating ADT, especially luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist association with cognitive dysfunction has been growing.

Association of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and circulating tumor cell-based PSA mRNA in prostate cancer.

Background: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is used for diagnosing prostate cancer, but does not reflect the characteristics of prostate cancer cells to allow assessment of cancer progression. PSA mRNA and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) could be potential biomarkers. However, the relationship between serum PSA levels and PSA mRNA in CTCs is unclear, and this study aimed to investigate this relationship.

Hybridized 1D-2D MnMoO-MXene nanocomposites as high-performing electrochemical sensing platform for the sensitive detection of dihydroxybenzene isomers in wastewater samples.

Hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC) are the two major dihydroxybenzene isomers, are considered one of the toxic pollutants in wastewater, which often coexisted and impede each other during sample identification. For practical analysis and simultaneous detection of HQ and CC in wastewater, we fabricate a hybrid electrochemical sensor with electrospun one-dimensional (1D) MnMoO nanofibers coupled with a few-layered exfoliated two-dimensional (2D) MXene. The facilitated abundant defective edges of 1D MnMoO and 2D MXene nanoarchitecture accelerated the effect of synergistic signal amplification and exhibited high electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of hydroquinone and catechol.

Effect of desmopressin lyophilisate (MELT) plus anticholinergics combination on functional bladder capacity and therapeutic outcome as the first-line treatment for primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis: A randomized clinical trial.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of desmopressin plus anticholinergic combination therapy as first-line treatment for children with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) and to analyze this combination's effect on functional bladder capacity (FBC).

Materials And Methods: A total of 99 children with PMNE were prospectively enrolled from 2015 to 2019 and randomly allocated to a monotherapy group (n=49), with oral desmopressin lyophilisate (MELT) only; and a combination group (n=50), with desmopressin plus an anticholinergic (propiverine 5 mg). Efficacy and FBC were evaluated at 1 and 3 months after treatment initiation; the relapse rate was assessed at 6 months after treatment cessation.

Applications of brain imaging methods in driving behaviour research.

Applications of neuroimaging methods have substantially contributed to the scientific understanding of human factors during driving by providing a deeper insight into the neuro-cognitive aspects of driver brain. This has been achieved by conducting simulated (and occasionally, field) driving experiments while collecting driver brain signals of various types. Here, this sector of studies is comprehensively reviewed at both macro and micro scales.

A data mining approach to deriving safety policy implications for taxi drivers.

Introduction: Traffic safety issues associated with taxis are important because the frequency of taxi crashes is significantly higher than that of other vehicle types. The purpose of this study is to derive safety implications to be used for developing policies to enhance taxi safety based on analyzing intrinsic characteristics underlying the cause of traffic accidents.

Method: An in-depth questionnaire survey was conducted to collect a set of useful data representing the intrinsic characteristics.

The association between family history of prostate cancer and development of prostate cancer among Korean population: A prospective cohort study using KoGES data.

This study aimed to assess the impact of family history (FH) on prostate cancer (PCa) development among a general Korean population. We conducted a prospective cohort study based on the registry records of 211,789 participants in the database of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study from 2001 to 2013. A total of 69,693 men with appropriate records were evaluated by being categorizing into 2 groups; a PCa group (100) and control group (69,593).

Connected vehicle-based road safety information system (CROSS): Framework and evaluation.

Valuable high-resolution data representing the maneuvering of both individual subject vehicles and adjacent vehicles are available in the era of the connected vehicle systems, which is also referred to as cooperative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS). C-ITS can share useful traffic information between connected vehicles (CV) and between vehicles and infrastructure in support of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) wireless communications. An excellent feature of a C-ITS pre-deployment project in Korean freeways that CVs are equipped with an in-vehicle forward collision warning system.

Risk of dementia and Parkinson's disease in patients treated with androgen deprivation therapy using gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist for prostate cancer: A nationwide population-based cohort study.

Recent studies reported conflicting results on the association of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with dementia and Parkinson's disease in patients with prostate cancer (Pca). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) increases the risk of both diseases. A nationwide population cohort study was conducted involving newly diagnosed patients with Pca %who started ADT with GnRHa (GnRHa users, n = 3,201) and control (nonusers, n = 4,123) between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2016, using data from the National Health Insurance Service.

Deep-Learning-Based Prediction of High-Risk Taxi Drivers Using Wellness Data.

Background: Factors related to the wellness of taxi drivers are important for identifying high-risk drivers based on human factors. The purpose of this study is to predict high-risk taxi drivers based on a deep learning method by identifying the wellness of a driver, which reflects the personal characteristics of the driver.

Methods: In-depth interviews with taxi drivers are conducted to collect wellness data.
