The clinical application of growth factors such as recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rh-BMP-2), for functional bone regeneration remains challenging due to limited in vivo efficacy and adverse effects of previous modalities. To overcome the instability and short half-life of rh-BMP-2 in vivo, we developed a novel osteogenic supplement by fusing a protein transduction domain (PTD) with BMP-2, effectively creating a prodrug of BMP-2. In this study, we first created an improved PTD-BMP-2 formulation using lipid nanoparticle (LNP) micellization, resulting in downsizing from micrometer to nanometer scale and achieving a more even distribution.

Severe episodic air pollution blankets entire cities and regions and have a profound impact on humans and their activities. We compiled daily fine particle (PM) data from 100 cities in five continents, investigated the trends of number, frequency, and duration of pollution episodes, and compared these with the baseline trend in air pollution. We showed that the factors contributing to these events are complex; however, long-term measures to abate emissions from all anthropogenic sources at all times is also the most efficient way to reduce the occurrence of severe air pollution events.

A new side-chain polymer (X-TPACz) bearing hole-transporting pendant groups accompanying a thermally crosslinkable entity was synthesized using N-([1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)- N-(4-(9-(4-vinylbenzyl)-9 H-carbazol-3-yl)phenyl)bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(6),2,4-trien-3-amine (6) via addition polymerization.

Quantum dot (QD)-assembled silica nanoparticles bearing a polydiacetylene (PDA) supramolecule on their surface (SiO(2)@QDs@PDA NPs) were developed for label-free and multiplexed detection of biological molecules. Two types of QD-assembled silica NPs (SiO(2)@QDs NPs) were prepared and coated with the PDA supramolecule via photo-induced polymerization of 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid. One of the SiO(2)@QDs NPs was embedded with blue-QDs, and the other was embedded with green-QDs for encoding.
