A systematic investigation of the secondary metabolites of MNY-14, which was isolated from the ripe leaves of , led to the isolation of eighteen compounds, including twelve indole diketopiperazine alkaloids (-), an -pyrone meroterpenoid (), a nortriterpenoid (), two benzophenones (), and two quinoline alkaloids (). Among them, compounds , and were isolated for the first time from . The chemotaxonomic significance of the secondary metabolites was discussed.

Seven previously undescribed compounds, including one amino acid hybrid sesquiterpene areolatol A (1), two unusual natural sesquiterpenoid skeleton areolatones A-B (2-3) and four benzo[j]fluoranthene areolaranes A-D (4-7) were characterized from Annulohypoxylon areolatum. The structures of the compounds were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, and ECD and NMR computational. Notably, areolatol A (1) was the first reported sesquiterpene featuring a 5/7/3-ring system and hybridized with two molecular amino acids.

High-fluoride groundwater is commonly found in coastal areas worldwide, while its formation mechanism remains elusive. Herein, a comprehensive study was performed to identify the major controlling factor of high-fluoride groundwater occurrence along the eastern coast of China. Hydrogeochemical methods were employed to examine the distribution patterns of seawater intrusion and fluoride concentration and the impact of seawater intrusion on the fluoride concentration.

Objective: Hemorrhagic stroke is a leading threat to human's health. The fast-developing microwave-induced thermoacoustic tomography (MITAT) technique holds potential to do brain imaging. However, transcranial brain imaging based on MITAT is still challenging due to the involved huge heterogeneity in speed of sound and acoustic attenuation of human skull.

Groundwater is a main source of water supply in Guangxi Province, China. The urbanization expansion and ocean dynamic may change the groundwater quality, which is an important issue due to its effects on human health. In this paper, the influence of seawater intrusion and anthropogenic activity on the Guangxi coastal aquatic environment was assessed by geochemical and multivariate statistical methods.

The fungus Pseudopestalotiopsis theae isolated from the fresh leaves of Illigera celebica, has been reported to be a pathogenic fungus that can cause gray blight on tea leaves, a disease characterized by the appearance of necrotic lesions on tea leaves. The pathogenic substances in this fungus have not been clearly identified. Considering the possible involvement of specialized metabolites in symptom appearance, a chemical investigation of specialized metabolites on P.

Deformations triggered by body heat are desirable in the context of shape-morphing applications because, under the majority of circumstances, the human body maintains a higher temperature than that of its surroundings. However, at present, this bioenergy-triggered action is primarily limited to soft polymeric networks. Thus, herein, the programming of body temperature-triggered deformations into rigid azobenzene-containing liquid crystalline polymers (azo-LCPs) with a glass-transition temperature of 100 °C is demonstrated.

Article Synopsis
  • A new compound called phomopine was isolated from a specific strain of fungus (sp. XM-01), along with five other known compounds.
  • The structure of phomopine was determined using advanced methods like spectroscopy and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations.
  • Bioassays showed that two of the compounds had strong antimicrobial effects, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 64 μg/mL and 16 μg/mL against specific microorganisms.

In this study, LiMn Ti O cathode materials were synthesized by a simple one-step hydrothermal method, and the effects of Ti doping on the sample structure and electrochemical properties were examined. The results indicated that Ti doping did not affect the spinel structure of LiMnO, and no other hybrid phases were produced. Furthermore, appropriate doping with Ti improved the particle uniformity of the samples.

Objective: As a newly developed technique, focused microwave breast hyperthermia (FMBH) can provide accurate and cost-effective treatment of breast tumors with low side effect. A clinically feasible FMBH system requires a guidance technique to monitor the microwave power distribution in the breast. Compressive thermoacoustic tomography (CTT) is a suitable guidance approach for FMBH, which is more cost-effective than MRI.

Nastic movements in plants that occur in response to environmental stimuli have inspired many man-made shape-morphing systems. Tendril is an exemplification serving as a parasitic grasping component for the climbing plants by transforming from a straight shape into a coiled configuration via the asymmetric contraction of internal stratiform plant tissues. Inspired by tendrils, this study using a three-dimensional (3D) printing approach developed a class of soft grippers with preprogrammed deformations being capable of imitating the general motions of plant tendrils, including bending, spiral, and helical distortions for grasping.

Understanding and effectively predicting the thermal stability of ternary transition metal oxides with heavy elements using first principle simulations are vital for understanding performance of advanced materials. In this work, we have investigated the thermal stability of mullite RMn2O5 (R  =  Bi, Pr, Sm, or Gd) structures by constructing temperature phase diagrams using an efficient mixed generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and the GGA  +  U method. Simulation predicted stability regions without corrections on heavy elements show a 4-200 K underestimation compared to our experimental results.

Herein, a facile strategy for the controllable synthesis of BiVO4@C core-shell nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is reported. The BiVO4 particle size can be controlled in the process by adjusting the volume ratio of glycerol in the sol-gel solution. The glycerol layers adsorbed on BiVO4 (BiVO4@glycerol) made it possible to form hydrogen bonds between BiVO4@glycerol and graphene oxide with the assistance of ultrasound.
