Article Synopsis
  • Tissue engineering offers a new way to repair large bone defects, and biological scaffolds significantly enhance the growth and development of bone-forming cells known as BMSCs.
  • This study utilized an injectable hydrogel containing a natural drug, processed pyritum (PP), which demonstrated better mechanical properties compared to a standard hydrogel.
  • Experiments showed that this composite hydrogel encouraged BMSC growth and bone formation both in lab tests and in living organisms, indicating its potential as an effective biomaterial for repairing bone injuries.

A coordinated interaction between osteogenesis and the osteoimmune microenvironment plays a vital role in regulating bone healing. However, disturbances in the pro- and anti-inflammatory balance hinder the therapeutic advantages of biomaterials. In this study, a novel composite hydrogel was successfully fabricated using graphene oxide (GO)-loaded processed pyritum (PP) in combination with poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC).

Pyrite exhibits considerable potential as an adsorbent in wastewater treatment. However, few pyrite adsorbents are directly obtained from natural pyrite, as most are composite materials that require a complex preparation process. To develop a pyrite-based adsorbent with a simple preparation process, pyrite was processed by calcination at 400, 600, and 800 °C for 4 h and ball-milled into a fine powder.

Background: With increasing knowledge about the gut - bone axis, more studies for treatments based on the regulation of postmenopausal osteoporosis by gut microbes are being conducted. Based on our previous work, this study was conducted to further investigate the therapeutic effects of GG (LGG) on ovariectomized (OVX) model rats and the immunological and microecological mechanisms involved.

Results: We found a protective effect of LGG treatment in OVX rats through changes in bone microarchitecture, bone biomechanics, and CTX-I, PINP, Ca, and RANKL expression levels.

We investigated the changes in the main active ingredients and pharmacodynamic differences in the therapeutic effect of garlic before and after steaming and the correlation between them. The main active ingredients in raw garlic products (RGPs) and steamed garlic products (SGPs) were determined by high-pressure liquid chromatography and ultraviolet spectroscopy. Acute rapid diarrhea (AD) and antibiotic-induced diarrhea (DD) models were established in rats, and each group was treated with RGP and SGP, respectively.
