Background: Recent studies have found that tobacco smoking is associated with fat distribution, yet limited research has focused on its relationship with visceral adipose tissues (VATs). Furthermore, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions among smoking, epigenetic modifications, and VATs remain unknown.

Method: We performed univariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to elucidate the causal relationship between smoking behaviours and VATs, including epicardial and pericardial adipose tissue (EPAT), liver fat (LF), and pancreas fat (PF).

Purpose: To compare the dietary inflammatory index (DII), triglyceride glucose index (TyG), waist triglyceride index (WTI), and body mass index (BMI) in predicting the survival of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methodology: Inclusion of 23,099 participants from the NHANES database who met specific criteria. Baseline was established using quartiles of DII index.

Objective: To investigate the association between driving pressure (ΔP) and 90-day mortality in patients following lung transplantation (LTx) in patients who developed primary graft dysfunction (PGD).

Methods: This prospective, observational study involved consecutive patients who, following LTx, were admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU) from January 2022 to January 2023. Patients were separated into two groups according to ΔP at time of admission (i.

Prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) is commonly associated with increased post-operative complications and mortality. Nevertheless, the predictive factors of PMV after lung transplantation (LTx) using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a bridge remain unclear. The present study aimed to develop a novel nomogram for PMV prediction in patients using ECMO as a bridge to LTx.

Background: Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) is the most common cause of cardiogenic cerebral embolism (CCE). However, the underlying mechanism between cerebral embolism and NVAF is indefinite, and there is no effective and convenient biomarker to identify potential risk of CCE in patients with NVAF in clinic. The present study aims to identify risk factors for interpreting the potential association of CCE with NVAF and providing valuable biomarkers to predict the risk of CCE for NVAF patients.

Aims: Besides energy supply, β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) acts as a bioactive molecule to play multiple protective roles, even in diabetes and its complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the antagonizing effects of BHB against diabetic glomerulosclerosis and the underlying mechanism.

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were intraperitoneally injected with streptozotocin to induce diabetes and then treated with different concentrations of β-hydroxybutyrate.
