Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in the USA and accounts for more than 1 million deaths worldwide with screening shown to reduce CRC mortality. This meta-analysis analyzed the use of stool DNA for screening average risk, asymptomatic subjects for colorectal cancer and advanced precancerous lesions and compared sDNA to FOBT tests (gFOBT and FIT). Eight studies were included from four different countries with a total of 39 665 subjects.

Disease-modifying therapies for PD remain an urgent unmet clinical need. This review was designed to summarize recent findings regarding to the efficacy of phytochemicals in the treatment of PD and their underlying mechanisms.

Acute pancreatitis is a potentially life-threatening inflammatory disorder of the exocrine pancreas characterized by early activation of pancreatic enzymes followed by macrophage-driven inflammation, and pancreatic acinar cell death. The most common causes are gallstones and excessive alcohol consumption. Inflammation and oxidative stress play critical roles in its pathogenesis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative stress is recognized to have a central role in the initiation and progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). Within the brain, neurons are particularly sensitive to oxidation due in part to their weak intrinsic antioxidant defense. Theoretically, neurons mostly depend on neighboring astrocytes to provide antioxidant protection by supplying cysteine-containing products for glutathione (GSH) synthesis.

This study aims to determine the incidence of aspiration pneumonia among PEG tube patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of NIS database records (October 2015 to December 2020) for patients with PEG.
Liver fibrosis is the formation of a fibrous scar resulting from chronic liver injury, independently from etiology. Although many of the mechanical details remain unknown, activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is a central driver of liver fibrosis. Extracellular mechanisms such as apoptotic bodies, paracrine stimuli, inflammation, and oxidative stress are critical in activating HSCs.

The primary objective of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of C-EMR versus H-EMR for the management of colorectal lesions.
Methods: A meta-analysis was performed to determine pooled odds ratios (ORs) for comparing outcomes between the C-EMR and H-EMR groups.
Introduction: With advances in therapeutics and longer survival across different cancer spectrums, the incidence of therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (tAML) has continued to rise. This study aims to evaluate the trend of survival outcomes and their association with sociodemographic factors in tAML over the last 20 years.
Methods: We identified tAML patients between 2000 and 2020 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.
Introduction: Portal vein thrombosis in cirrhotic patients presents a significant clinical challenge. This study aims to (1) explore the impact of anticoagulation therapy on patient outcomes; (2) comparative outcomes in portal vein thrombosis treated between direct oral anticoagulant and Vitamin K Antagonist (VKA).
Materials And Methods: We leveraged the TriNetX database to analyze a cohort comprising 4224 patients with liver cirrhosis and PVT who were treated with anticoagulation, alongside a comparison group of 15,300 patients with the same conditions but not receiving anticoagulation therapy.
Background: The relationship between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and cardiovascular outcomes among pregnant women has yet to be thoroughly investigated. Our aim is to assess the odds of cardiovascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias during hospital admissions for delivery and identify contributing factors associated with cardiovascular complications in pregnant women with IBD.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of data from the National Inpatient Sample, obtained from delivery admissions of pregnant women with and without IBD, identified via International Classification of Diseases codes, from 2009 to 2019.

Objective: While the association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and long-term cardiovascular risks has been studied, the impact of MASLD on cardiovascular events during delivery hospitalizations remains relatively unexplored. This study aims to examine the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and cardiac arrhythmias in pregnant patients with MASLD and identify potential risk factors.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of hospital discharge records from the National Inpatient Sample database between 2009 and 2019 was conducted to assess maternal cardiovascular outcomes.
Background: The global surge in obesity presents a significant health challenge, leading to increased adoption of bariatric surgery as an intervention. However, the correlation between bariatric surgery and cardiovascular outcomes during subsequent pregnancies remains unclear. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of cardiovascular complications during delivery hospitalizations in patients with bariatric procedure.

Recent Findings: This review found that the plant flavonoids with anti-pancreatic cancer activity mainly include chalcones, dihydrochalcones, flavanols, flavanones, flavones, isoflavonoids, flavonols, isoflavones, and flavanonols. Most of these flavonoids have anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic, cell cycle arrest, anti-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and anti-metastatic properties.
Background: Immunotherapy have demonstrated promising outcomes in patients with high microsatellite instability (MSI) (MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer. However, the comparative effectiveness of Immunotherapy and chemotherapy for patients with low MSI (MSI-L), and microsatellite stable (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer remains unclear.
Aim: To investigate immunotherapy chemotherapy for treatment of MSI-L/MSS metastatic colorectal cancer, and to evaluate the success of immunotherapy against chemotherapy in managing MSI-H metastatic colorectal cancer during a follow-up of 50 months.
Liver cancer currently represents the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The majority of liver cancer arises in the context of chronic inflammation and cirrhosis. Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy have been the guideline-recommended treatment options for decades.

Clinically, it is characterized by progressive memory decline and subsequent loss of broader cognitive functions. Current drugs provide only symptomatic relief but do not have profound disease-modifying effects.

Studies on the impact of obesity on patients hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia have been conflicting, with some studies describing worse outcomes in patients with obesity, while other studies reporting no difference in outcomes. Previous studies on obesity and critical illness have described improved outcomes in patients with obesity, termed the "obesity paradox.

There is scant and conflicting evidence about the use of pulmonary hypertension (PH) specific therapy in patients with PH-COPD. PubMed, OVID, CINAHL, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science were searched using various MESH terms to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or observational studies investigating PH-specific therapies in patients with severe PH-COPD, defined by mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) of more than 35 mm Hg or pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) of more than 5 woods units on right heart catheterization.

Recent Findings: Typically, colorectal cancer is a potentially preventable and curable cancer arising from benign precancerous polyps found in the colon's inner lining. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer, with a lifetime risk of approximately 4 to 5%.
Background: Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) frequently complicates alcoholic hepatitis (AH) and portends poor survival in this population. Published literature indicates mixed benefits from renal replacement therapy (RRT) for HRS refractory to medical management. Therefore, we sought to assess the utilization of RRT in AH and clinical outcomes at a national level.
