Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) are emerging environmental contaminants with recognized potential health and ecological risks. This study investigated the effects of PFOA and TBBP-A exposure on the global of metabolites of silkworm gut with GC-MS metabolomics. Our results revealed distinct metabolic alterations in silkworms exposed to PFOA and TBBP-A, highlighting their differential impacts on silkworm health and productivity.

Spider silk is a type of natural protein fiber with excellent toughness and tensile strength. The mechanical properties of chimeric silk have been improved by integrating the spider silk protein gene into the silkworm (Bombyx mori) genome, but this strategy requires a long time to produce genetically modified silkworms. The mechanism by which infection by Bombyx mori cytoplasmic nucleopolyhedrosis virus (BmCPV) causes autophagy has not been studied in detail. Herein we have observed by electron microscopy that infection with BmCPV causes autophagosome and mitochondrial structure damage in Bombyx mori midgut. In BmN cells infected with BmCPV and expressing eGFP-LC3, fluorescence spots and LC3-II levels increased, suggesting that BmCPV infection causes autophagy.
