Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), subtypes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), exhibit distinct characteristics. The expression and prognostic significance of Protocadherin Gamma Subfamily A, 12 (PCDHGA12) in NSCLC remain unexplored. This study analyzed transcriptomic and genomic datasets from TCGA to investigate PCDHGA12 expression and its prognostic relevance in LUAD and LUSC.

The emergence of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which is the etiologic agent of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, has dominated all aspects of life since of 2020. Research studies on the virus and exploration of therapeutic and preventive strategies has been moving at rapid rates to control the pandemic. In the field of bioinformatics or computational and structural biology, recent research strategies have used multiple disciplines to compile large datasets to uncover statistical correlations and significance, visualize and model proteins, perform molecular dynamics simulations, and employ the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning to harness computational processing power to further the research on COVID-19, including drug screening, drug design, vaccine development, prognosis prediction, and outbreak prediction.

Article Synopsis
  • Cancer genomics is rapidly advancing, but analyzing somatic mutation data is complicated due to a lack of standardized tools and formats.
  • A new Python toolkit called MutScape streamlines this process by providing filtering, analysis, and visualization features, allowing researchers to easily handle large datasets.
  • MutScape can process millions of mutation records quickly and offers robust analyses with just two commands, making it user-friendly and effective for cancer research; it's also available for free on GitHub.

By December 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had caused more than 74 million confirmed cases and 1.6 million related deaths around the world. However, only a few drugs have been approved in certain areas and for use in conditional patients, and the vaccine candidates were only recently approved or authorized for emergency use without being fully implemented worldwide, suggesting that we are yet to reach effective control of the current outbreak as its uninhibited transmission continues precariously.

Rationale: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Currently, targeted therapy has proved highly efficient in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) is considered a validated molecular target in NSCLC.

Three new phloroglucinol derivatives, namely agripinol A-C (1-3), were isolated from Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb, along with two known ones (4-5). Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic methods, including MS and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were unambiguously established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Corydalis yanhusuo, a well-known herbaceous plant, is commonly used in the treatment of inflammation, injury and pain. One natural agent isolated from Corydalis yanhusuo, 13-methyl-palmatrubine, was found to have a cytotoxic effect on cancer cells as reported in published studies. In the present study, we synthesized a potential anti-lung tumor agent, 13-methyl-palmatrubine and analyzed its activity.

Objective: To explore the method and effect of the midfacial degloving approach and modified hemifacial degloving approach associated with nasal endoscopic surgery in the treatment of the nasal diseases.

Method: Thirty patients with nasal diseases were treated with nasal endoscopic surgery by midfacial degloving approach and modified hemifacial degloving approach. Four cases underwent midfacial degloving approach with standard method, three cases were underwent by hemifacial degloving approach and our modified hemifacial degloving approach associated with nasal endoscopic surgery were performed in twenty-three cases.
