Effect of age and gender on left ventricular rotation and twist in a large group of normal adults--a multicenter study.

Background: The newly developed 2-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (2D-STI) allows assessment of left ventricular (LV) rotation and twist. The aims of the present study are to establish normal values and to examine the effect of aging and gender on these parameters.

Methods: We studied 228 healthy subjects (109 males, mean age 44 ± 15 years, ranged 18-78 years).

Left ventricular endocardial pacing predicts the reduction of left ventricular outflow tract pressure gradient immediately after percutaneous transseptal myocardial ablation in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy refractory to medication.

Background: Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) carries an increased risk for sudden cardiac death. No data regarding the percutaneous transseptal myocardial ablation (PTSMA) and epicardial left ventricular pacing (LVP) were reported.

Methods: Seven patients with recurrent symptoms and increased resting left ventricular outflow tract pressure gradient (LVOTG) after PTSMA and another 14 patients with HOCM without history of PTSMA were studied.
