Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of common carotid artery sonography versus transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) for measuring cardiac output, suggesting a simpler method for intensive care monitoring.
  • - It involved 148 patients who underwent both carotid Doppler examinations and TTE within an 8-hour period, and results showed moderate agreement between the two methods, with an overall intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.537.
  • - While carotid cardiac output may be a viable alternative for emergencies, it is not recommended for patients experiencing septic shock, multiple trauma, or respiratory failure due to low correlation rates in these groups.
