Article Synopsis
  • - Osimertinib is an effective lung cancer drug, but it can cause severe allergic reactions, especially in Asian patients, which can complicate treatment.
  • - A study of 17 patients showed that the genetic marker HLA-B*51:02 was found in a high percentage of those experiencing severe allergic reactions (SJS/TEN), indicating a strong genetic predisposition.
  • - The presence of HLA-B*51:02 also correlated with higher levels of a specific protein related to these reactions, suggesting that individuals with this genetic marker may be at risk for severe side effects when taking osimertinib.

Recently, advances in enhancing corrosion properties through various techniques, and the clinical application of biodegradable cardiovascular stents made from magnesium (Mg) alloys face challenges to corrosion resistance, blood compatibility, and biocompatibility. Drug-eluting stents (DES) offer a solution to enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys while simultaneously reducing the occurrence of restenosis. In this study, WE43 Mg alloy was pretreated using electropolishing technology, and different polymers (PEG and PLLA) were used as drug-polymer coatings for the Mg alloy.

In this study, the impact resistance of aramid fabric reinforced with shear thickening fluids (STFs), epoxy or polyurea elastomers is examined through ballistic tests. According to the ballistic test results, the aramid composite structure treated with polyurea elastomers absorbs the most impact energy per unit area density and has the best impact resistance. However, the occurrence of stress concentration during ballistic impact reduces the impact resistance of the aramid composite structure treated with epoxy.

Acne keloidalis (AK) is one of the primary cicatricial alopecias and predominantly affects men of African descent. Reports in Asians are scant. This study aimed to retrospectively review the clinical and histopathological features of AK patients in southern Taiwan and identify the pathognomonic features of AK.

The effective processing method to produce fermentable sugars and modify the microstructure of black soybean okara using bio-ionic liquid (bio-IL) pretreatment and ultrasound-promoted enzymatic hydrolysis was investigated. The morphology and structural characteristics of okara before and after bio-IL pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis under different ultrasonic frequencies were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Without pretreatment, the production of total reducing sugar (TRS) under ultrasound (40 kHz/300 W) was 3.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary scarring alopecia (PSA) results from permanent damage to hair follicle stem cells, with limited research focused on the Asian population, specifically in southern Taiwan.
  • A study reviewed 89 patients with pathology-confirmed PSA from 1988 to 2016, identifying seven subtypes, with dissecting cellulitis (DC) and lichen planopilaris (LPP) being the most prevalent.
  • Patient demographics indicated that certain PSA subtypes showed sex and age differences, with specific hair loss patterns associated with each subtype, highlighting the importance of recognizing these patterns for accurate diagnosis.
