Background: Afatinib is approved for first-line treatment of patients with epidermal growth factor receptor mutation-positive (m+) non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we report findings from a combined analysis of three phase IIIb studies of afatinib in EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI)-naïve patients.
Methods: EGFR-TKI-naïve patients with m+ NSCLC received afatinib 40 mg/day.
Offspring of hypertensive pregnancies are more likely to have microvascular rarefaction and increased blood pressure in later life. We tested the hypothesis that maternal angiogenic profile during a hypertensive pregnancy is associated with fetal vasculogenic capacity and abnormal postnatal microvascular remodeling. Infants (n=255) born after either hypertensive or normotensive pregnancies were recruited for quantification of postnatal dermal microvascular structure at birth and 3 months of age.

Our objectives were to identify an efficient cardiac differentiation protocol for human iPS cells as monolayers, and demonstrate that the resulting cardiac progenitors could provide a therapeutic benefit in a rodent model of myocardial infarction. Herein, we describe a 14-day protocol for efficient cardiac differentiation of human iPS cells as a monolayer, which routinely yielded a mixed population in which over 50% were cardiomyocytes, endothelium, or smooth muscle cells.

The present study aims to elucidate the effects of disturbed flow on monocyte adhesion to ECs and the adhesive properties of ECs. We applied, for the first time, the micron-resolution particle image velocimetry (microPIV) technique to analyze the characteristics of the disturbed flow produced in our vertical-step flow (VSF) chamber.
