Background: Earlier studies have established that culturing human ovarian tissue in a 3D system with a small amount of soluble Matrigel (a basement membrane protein) for 7 days in vitro increased gene fusion and alternative splicing events, cellular functions, and potentially impacted gene expression. However, this method was not suitable for in vitro culture of human testicular tissue.

Objective: To test a new method for long-time in vitro culture of testicular fragments, thawed with two different regimes, with evaluation of transcriptomic differences by RNA sequencing.

Recent studies on narrow bandgap all-conjugated block copolymer (BCP) single-material-organic solar cells (SMOSCs) have made unprecedented progress in power conversion efficiency (PCE); however, it still lacks understanding of the structure-property relationship in these highly mixed materials. Herein, the impact of different synthetic protocols (direct synthesis (d-BCP) versus sequential synthesis (s-BCP)) is first investigated on the relevant photovoltaic properties. Targeting the same BCP, namely PBDB-T-b-PYIT, it is found that the change in polymerization reaction leads to quite different optical and transport properties.

The compatibility of perovskite and organic photovoltaic materials in solution processing provides a significant advantage in the fabrication of high-efficiency perovskite/organic tandem solar cells. However, additional recombination losses can occur during exciton dissociation in organic materials, leading to energy losses in the near-infrared region of tandem devices. Consequently, a ternary organic rear subcell is designed containing two narrow-bandgap non-fullerene acceptors to enhance the absorption of near-infrared light.

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) need to overcome limitations such as insufficient thermal stability to be commercialized. The reported approaches to improve stability either rely on the development of new materials or on tailoring the donor/acceptor morphology, however, exhibiting limited applicability. Therefore, it is timely to develop an easy method to enhance thermal stability without having to develop new donor/acceptor materials or donor-acceptor compatibilizers, or by introducing another third component.

Leveraging breakthroughs in Y-series nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs), organic solar cells (OSCs) have achieved impressive power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) exceeding 19%. However, progress in advancing OSCs has decelerated due to constraints in realizing the full potential of the Y-series NFAs. Herein, a simple yet effective solid additive-induced preaggregation control method employing 2-chloro-5-iodopyridine (PDCI) is reported to unlock the full potential of the Y-series NFAs.

Although much promising synthetic progress in conjugated polymer-based organic solar cells (OSCs) has resulted in significant improvement in power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of from over 15 to >19.0% in the last five years, the sophisticated and complex reactions from at least two families' monomers with remarkably different electron push-pull effects could still pose an unavoidable material burden for the commercialization of OSCs in the coming future. Therefore, the method of preparing a homopolymer from a sole monomer would significantly reduce the synthetic steps and costs in order to pave the way for the large-scale production of OSC materials.

Large-area printing fabrication is a distinctive feature of organic solar cells (OSCs). However, the advance of upscalable fabrication is challenged by the thickness of organic active layers considering the importance of both exciton dissociation and charge collection. In this work, a bulk-heterojunction-buried (buried-BHJ) structure is introduced by sequential deposition to realize efficient exciton dissociation and charge collection, thereby contributing to efficient OSCs with 500 nm thick active layers.

All-small-molecule organic solar cells with good batch-to-batch reproducibility combined with non-halogen solvent processing show great potential for commercialization. However, non-halogen solvent processing of all-small-molecule organic solar cells are rarely reported and its power conversion efficiencies are very difficult to improve. Herein, we designed and synthesized a small molecule donor BM-ClEH that can take advantage of strong aggregation property induced by intramolecular chlorine-sulfur non-covalent interaction to improve molecular pre-aggregation in tetrahydrofuran and corresponding micromorphology after film formation.

Cryopreservation of human testicular tissue, as a key element of anticancer therapy, includes the following stages: saturation with cryoprotectants, freezing, thawing, and removal of cryoprotectants. According to the point of view existing in "classical" cryobiology, the thawing mode is the most important consideration in the entire process of cryopreservation of any type of cells, including cells of testicular tissue. The existing postulate in cryobiology states that any frozen types of cells must be thawed as quickly as possible.

Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) is a main complication after cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOLs) implantation and is attributed to residual lens epithelial cells (LECs) migrating to the IOL surface and posterior capsules. IOL surface modification has been a newly-developing research filed in recent years; however, the applicability and economical acquisition of modified materials remain unsolved. In this study, we first applied a metal-polyphenolic network coating with a self-assembly technique on the IOL surface by using tannic acid (TA) combined with AlCl, which are easily acquire and applying on the IOL surface to solve the IOL transmittance affair.

Using two structurally similar polymer acceptors in constructing high-efficiency ternary all-polymer solar cells is a widely acknowledged strategy; however, the focus thus far has not been on how polymer acceptor(s) would tune the aggregation of polymer donors, and furthermore film morphology and device performance (efficiency and stability). Herein, it is reported that matching of the celebrity acceptor PY-IT and the donor PBQx-TCl results in enhanced H-aggregation in PBQx-TCl, which can be finely tuned by controlling the amount of the second acceptor PY-IV. Consequently, the efficiency-optimized PY-IV weight ratio (0.

P-type polymers are polymeric semiconducting materials that conduct holes and have extensive applications in optoelectronics such as organic photovoltaics. Taking the advantage of intrinsic discontinuous light absorption of organic semiconductors, semitransparent organic photovoltaics (STOPVs) present compelling opportunities in various potential applications such as building-integrated photovoltaics, agrivoltaics, automobiles, and wearable electronics. The characteristics of p-type polymers, including optical, electronic, and morphological properties, determine the performance of STOPVs, and the requirements for p-type polymers differ between opaque organic photovoltaics and STOPVs.

  • This study evaluates the accuracy of planned central corneal stromal thickness (CST) reduction in two laser vision correction methods: SMILE and FS-LASIK, involving 77 patients.
  • Results show that SMILE overestimates CST reduction by an average of 18.49 μm, while FS-LASIK underestimates it by 2.56 μm, indicating differing accuracy levels.
  • The study suggests using manifest refraction without nomogram adjustments could be practical for both procedures, as it narrows the planned-achieved difference in SMILE and keeps it stable in FS-LASIK.
