The wide spread of antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" containing New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1) has become a threat to human health. However, clinically valid antibiotics to treat the superbugs' infection are not available now. Quick, simple, and reliable methods to assess the ligand-binding mode are key to developing and improving inhibitors against NDM-1.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a flavivirus in the same family as West Nile virus (WNV), dengue virus (DENV) and yellow fever virus (YFV), which are transmitted by mosquitoes. About 68 thousand people are infected with JEV every year. In many Asian countries, JEV is the main cause of viral encephalitis.

The emerging of the New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase (NDM-1) has become one of the greatest threats to the clinical treatment. Although the structure of NDM-1 has been determined by X-ray crystallography, the molecular mechanism and process of catalysis reaction remain elusive. NMR spectroscopy plays a unique role in the characterization of conformational dynamics.

The small globular protein GB1 was one of the first studied in Xenopus oocytes, but there have been few reports since then of high-resolution spectra in oocytes. The scarcity of data is at least partly due to the lack of good labeling strategies and the paucity of information on resonance broadening mechanisms.
