A cantilever-enhanced fiber-optic photoacoustic (PA) spectrophone is reported for trace gas detection at a low-pressure environment. A cantilever-based fiber-optic Fabry-Perot (F-P) interferometer (FPI) is utilized for simultaneous measurement of air pressure and PA pressure. Since the cantilever resonance frequency follows air pressure linearly, the fundamental frequency intensity modulation (1-IM) technique is applied to scan the frequency response of the solid PA signal from tube wall absorption for tracking the cantilever resonance frequency in real time.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) NS2B-NS3 is a protein complex composed of NS3 proteases and an NS2B co-factor. The N-terminal protease domain (180 residues) of NS3 (NS3(pro)) interacts directly with a central 40-amino acid hydrophilic domain of NS2B (NS2B(H)) to form an active serine protease. The number of cationic residues and net charge are critical for the activity of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) due to their role in facilitating initial electrostatic interactions with negatively charged bacterial membranes. A cathelicidin AMP (TC-33) has been identified from the Chinese tree shrew in our previous work, which exhibited weak antimicrobial activity, likely due to its moderately cationic nature. Diffractive multispectral optical imaging plays an essential role in optical sensing, which typically suffers from the image blurring problem caused by the spatially variant point spread function. Here, we propose a novel high-quality and efficient hybrid space calibrated 3D network "HSC3D" for spatially variant diffractive multispectral imaging that utilizes the 3D U-Net structure combined with space calibration modules of magnification and rotation effects to achieve high-accuracy eight-channel multispectral restoration. The algorithm combines the advantages of the space calibrated module and U-Net architecture with 3D convolutional layers to improve the image quality of diffractive multispectral imaging without the requirements of complex equipment modifications and large amounts of data.

Given homomorphic fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl) and bromine (Br) atoms are featured with gradually enlarged polarizability/atomic radius but decreased electronegativity, the rational screen of halogen species and locations on small molecular acceptors (SMAs) is quite essential for acquiring desirable molecular packing to boost efficiency of organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, three isomeric SMAs (CH-F, CH-C and CH-B) are constructed by delicately rebuilding peripheral F, Cl, Br footprints on both central and end units. Such a re-permutation of peripheral halogens could not only maintain the structural symmetry of SMAs to the maximum, but also acquire extra asymmetric benefits of enhanced dipole moment and intramolecular charge transfer, etc.

We conducted homogeneous nucleation experiments for dilute binary H2O-CO2 mixtures in Ar-N2 carrier gas with different CO2/H2O ratios at temperatures of 57 and 75 K and total pressures of ∼40 and 70 Pa, respectively. Direct experimental information on the number and type of molecules in the clusters and on the cluster number concentration is obtained by mass spectrometric detection of nucleating clusters that form in the uniform region of Laval expansions. Only homo-molecular water clusters are observed in the mass spectra.

Branch-connected dimerized acceptors can take full advantages of four end units in enhancing molecular packing comparing to that of terminal-connected ones, thus potentially reaching the best balance between stability and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, two branch-connected dimerized acceptors, namely D1 and D2, are developed by employing bithiophene and difluorinated bithiophene as linker groups, respectively. Induced by the fluorine atoms on linker group, D2 affords a larger molar extinction coefficient, more importantly, the optimized nanoscale film morphology and superior charge transport behavior comparing to D1.
