This study aimed to evaluate the correlation of plasma deoxycholic acid (DCA) levels with clinical and hemodynamic parameters in acute pulmonary embolism (APE) patients. Total 149 APE adult patients were prospectively recruited. Plasma DCA levels were measured using rapid resolution liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is the causative agent of bovine viral diarrhea. It can infect cattle, sheep, pigs, and other animals, causing diarrhea, miscarriage, and stillbirth, among other symptoms, and it can result in huge economic losses to animal husbandry. There are reports on BVDV infection rates in sheep and goat herds from all over the world and this meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the prevalence of and risk factors for BVDV in sheep and goats.

Bluetongue is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of bloodsucking insects, which mainly occurs in sheep, goats, and cattle. Bluetongue is characterized by fever, leukopenia, and severe catarrhal inflammation of the oral and gastrointestinal mucosa. The present study aimed to evaluate and analyze the prevalence of bluetongue and its associated risk factors in sheep and goats in China.

Article Synopsis
  • Eimeria spp. causes coccidiosis, a disease that significantly weakens livestock and can result in their death, leading to major economic losses, particularly in the cattle industry.
  • This review is the first systematic analysis of how prevalent Eimeria infections are in cattle across mainland China, highlighting data from 46 articles that revealed prevalence rates varying from 4.6% to 87.5%.
  • The study found that the infection rate has decreased over the years, from 57.9% before 2000 to 25.0% after 2015, but remains a concern, suggesting that prevention strategies should prioritize better detection in calves within intensive farming systems.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the prevalence of a harmful gram-negative microorganism in swine in China, gathering data from 72 publications between 1985 and 2020.
  • The overall prevalence was found to be 22.48%, with a notable increase in southern China (30.97%) compared to northern China (10.79%), and the highest prevalence recorded in Hubei province (36.23%).
  • The study suggests improved detection methods in breeding pigs, particularly those with reproductive disorders, and recommends controlling environmental factors in large-scale farms to mitigate future infections.

Article Synopsis
  • Bovine leukemia is a contagious tumor disease in cattle caused by the bovine leukemia virus (BLV), which is prevalent in many regions and poses potential risks to animal and human health.
  • A meta-analysis of 35 studies in China from 1983-2019 found a 10% prevalence rate of BLV among 34,954 tested cattle, with significant differences based on factors like sampling year, age, and detection methods.
  • The research suggests a higher prevalence in cattle sampled before 1985 and aged 3-5 years, recommending increased testing and the use of methods like PCR to better control and prevent the disease.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) causes infectious diseases in pigs leading to considerable economic losses in the pig industry. To prevent and control PCV2 infections, is important to understand the prevalence and geographical distribution of the virus. We performed the first systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the prevalence of PCV2 in China.

Dopamine content in the basal ganglia is strongly associated with the degree of dopaminergic neuron loss in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Symptoms of Parkinson's disease might not arise until more than 50% of the substantia nigra pars compacta is lost and the dopamine content in the basal ganglia is reduced by more than 80%. Greater diagnostic sensitivity and specificity would allow earlier detection of Parkinson's disease.

Objective: We investigated the clinical significance of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) in monitoring the efficacy of radiotherapy (RT) and chemotherapy (CT) treatments in cervical cancer.

Method: In order to identify relevant high quality clinical cohort studies reporting the use of DWI in cervical cancers, the following electronic databases in English and Chinese languages were comprehensively searched: MEDLINE, Science Citation Index database, Cochrane Library Database, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Current Contents Index; Chinese Biomedical Database, Chinese Journal Full-Text Database. All selected studies were published prior to March 2014, and data extracted from these studies were analyzed using STATA 12.

Objective: Diagnostic significance of interleukin 6 (IL-6) for lung cancer patients with radiation pneumonitis (RP) was examined within various studies, but yielded conflicting results. Thus, this meta-analysis was performed to demonstrate correlations between serum IL-6 levels and RP in lung cancer patients.

Method: Electronic databases updated to March 2014 were searched to find relevant studies.

WRKY proteins form a large family of plant transcription factors implicated in the modulation of numerous biological processes, such as growth, development and responses to various environmental stresses. However, the roles of the majority WRKY family members, especially in non-model plants, remain poorly understood. We identified CaWRKY40 from pepper.
