The purpose of the present study was to explore the role of carotid body metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) in chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH)-induced carotid body plasticity. Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were exposed to CIH (6%-21% O, 4 min/cycle, 8 h/day) for 4 weeks. The blood pressure of rats was monitored non-invasively by tail-cuff method under consciousness.

Article Synopsis
  • * Traditional estrogen therapy can lower the risk of NAFLD but may increase cardiovascular issues, making it unsuitable for this condition.
  • * Phytoestrogens emerge as a safer alternative, with potential benefits in treating postmenopausal NAFLD by improving lipid and glucose metabolism, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, balancing gut bacteria, and preventing liver fibrosis, though their exact mechanisms remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • * After 4 weeks of CIH, rats showed significantly increased blood pressure, along with altered mRNA expression levels of mGluR receptors in the carotid body.
  • * Activation of group III mGluRs was found to inhibit long-term changes in carotid body sensitivity, while group II mGluRs had no significant effect under CIH conditions.

Internal floating roof tank has the advantages of external floating roof tank and fixed roof tank and has its own evaporation loss properties. The influences of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) distribution gradient, molecular diffusion, thermal diffusion and forced convection on the evaporation loss of oil were studied in the space of the homemade platform of an internal floating roof tank. The results showed that thermal diffusion with temperature change was the main cause for the static loss in the internal floating roof tank.
