Background: To compare the mid-term efficacy and postoperative complications of two common bariatric procedures-single anastomotic duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG)-in treating obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Methods: Data from 186 patients undergoing SADI-S or SG between September 2013 and October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied in a 1:1 ratio, resulting in 78 patients included in the final analysis (39 per group).

Structural engineering of full concentration gradient (FCG) offers promising prospects for improving the interface and thermal stability of Ni-rich layered cathodes. However, the Ni content in the core of FCG cathode particle is higher than that on the surface, resulting in rapid structural deterioration at the particle core during cycling. To directionally strengthen the structural stability at the cores of FCG cathode particles, this study proposes a dual-cation targeted co-doping strategy that coordinates gradient Al doping with uniform Na doping.

Phenylalanine (Phe) is a potentially limiting amino acid for lactating cows. The mechanism by which Phe regulates milk protein synthesis remains unclear. The present study elucidates the mechanisms by which phenylalanine affects milk protein synthesis, amino acid utilization, and related signaling pathways in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs).

Direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (DSHP) from oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H) offers a promising alternative to anthraquinone oxidation for hydrogen peroxide (HO) production, yet challenges remain in achieving high selectivity and productivity. In this study, palladium octahedral nanoparticles (Pd ONPs) exposing Pd(111) facets were first synthesized, followed by the introduction of lead (Pb) atoms onto these facets to construct Pb-Pd(111) surface alloy structures (Pd@Pd-Pbx ONPs) for efficient DSHP. Characterization results indicated that the introduction of Pb atoms increased the electron density of Pd atoms and significantly reduced the number of low-coordinated Pd atoms.

High prevalence of long COVID symptoms has emerged as a significant public health concern. This study investigated the associations between three doses of COVID-19 vaccines and the presence of any and ≥3 types of long COVID symptoms among people with a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Hong Kong, China. This is a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional online survey among Hong Kong adult residents conducted between June and August 2022.

Objective: In the freeway tunnel approach section, lane-changing behaviors and transitions in the driving environment exacerbate traffic flow disruptions, increase driving risks, and lead to a higher accident rate. To this end, this study presents a method to explore the risk evolution process of lane-changing in these sections and evaluate its impact on traffic flow operations surrounding lane-changing vehicles.

Methods: First, a driving risk potential field model based on the field theory, which consists of a vehicle kinetic potential field and a tunnel illumination potential field, is proposed to evaluate the driving risk.

The concept of employing highly concentrated electrolytes has been widely incorporated into electrolyte design, due to their enhanced Li-metal passivation and oxidative stability compared to their diluted counterparts. However, issues such as high viscosity and sub-optimal wettability, compromise their suitability for commercialization. In this study, we present a highly concentrated dimethyl ether-based electrolyte that appears as a liquid phase at ambient conditions via Li - solvents ion-dipole interactions (Coulombic condensation).

Facilitating swift burn wound healing while effectively preventing scar formation continues to be a considerable challenge in medical practice. In this study, an injectable carboxymethyl chitosan/oxidized dextran/polyvinylpyrrolidone/dopamine (COPD) hydrogel was designed for the effective sequentially promotion of burn wound healing and inhibition of scar formation. The COPD hydrogel precursor solution was injected into the burn wound via a double-barreled syringe and transformed into an adherent hydrogel within 25 s.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33) belongs to the IL-1 cytokine superfamily and plays a critical role in regulating immune responses and maintaining host homeostasis. IL-33 is essential for driving and enhancing type 2 immune responses and is closely associated with the pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases, infections, and the progression and metastasis of cancers. This study aimed to provide an overview of the anti-tumor effects of IL-33 by examining its complex immunomodulatory functions within the tumor microenvironment and how it regulates immune cells to mediate these effects.

Most methods for regulating physical and chemical properties of materials involve the breaking and formation of chemical bonds, which inevitably change local structures. Two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnets are critical for spintronic memory and quantum devices, but most of them maintain ferromagnetism at low temperature, and multiaspect control of 2D ferromagnetism at room temperature or above is still missing. Here, we report a nondestructive, van der Waals (vdW) interfacial magnetochemistry strategy for above-room-temperature, multiaspect 2D ferromagnetism regulation.

Circular RNA (circRNA) are a unique class of non-coding RNAs characterized by their covalently closed loop structures, which grant them properties such as stability and conservation. Among these, circFOXP1 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancers, respiratory, skeletal, and cardiovascular disorders. This review systematically examines circFOXP1's role in disease progression, highlighting its involvement in critical biological processes, including cell proliferation, invasion, apoptosis, and autophagy.

Objective: Explore alterations in topological features of gray matter volume (GMV) and structural networks in non-cognitive impairment end-stage renal disease (Non-CI ESRD).

Materials And Methods: Utilizing graph theory, we collected structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) data from 38 Non-CI ESRD patients and 50 normal controls (NC). We compared, and extracted the GMV across subject groups, constructed corresponding structural covariance networks (SCNs), and investigated the alterations in SCNs feature parameters between groups.

As one of the major geological disasters in southeastern China, typhoon-induced vegetation slope instability causes significant loss of life and property each year. Despite the criticality of this issue, the response mechanism of vegetated slopes to wind loading in terms of soil deformation and stability still remains unclear. This research conducted field investigations on 330 historical landslides in Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province, analyzing their spatiotemporal distribution and developmental characteristics to establish a conceptual model.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) with redox-active organic compounds as electrodes attract wide attention due to their structural diversity, sustainability and inherent safety. However, the rational structural design of advanced organic electrodes with high practical capacity, long cycle life and high rate performance is still a great challenge. Herein, a strategy to improve the electrochemical performance of electrodes in AZIBs by constructing an extended π-conjugated hexaazatrinaphthalene (HATN)-based structure with electron-withdrawing cyano groups, 5, 6, 11, 12, 17, 18-hexaazatrinaphthalene-2, 3, 8, 9, 14, 15-hexacarbonitrile (HATN-6CN), is reported.

Understanding the impact of depression on brain aging benefits the prognosis of this disease and of the risk that other age-related brain disorders will develop in the same population. The aim of the present study was to explore the genetic effect of depression on longitudinal changes in brain structure throughout the lifespan using a Mendelian randomization approach. Summary data from a genome-wide association study of 195,321 to 377,277 participants in the FinnGen consortium were used to predict depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and antidepressant use genetically.
