Topological crystalline insulators (TCIs) with hourglass fermion surface state have attracted a lot of attention and are further enriched by crystalline symmetries and magnetic order. Here, the emergence of hourglass fermion surface state and exotic phases in the newly discovered, air-stable ErAsS single crystals are shown. In the paramagnetic phase, ErAsS is expected to be a TCI with hourglass fermion surface state protected by the nonsymmorphic symmetry.

Bacterial wilt, which is a major soil-borne disease with widespread occurrence, poses a severe danger in the field of tobacco production. However, there is very limited knowledge on bacterial wilt-induced microecological changes in the tobacco root system and on the interaction between Ralstonia solanacearum and fungal communities in the rhizosphere soil. Thus, in this study, changes in fungal communities in the rhizosphere soil of tobaccos with bacterial wilt were studied by 18S rRNA gene sequencing.

COVID-19 has erupted and quickly swept across the globe, causing huge losses to human health and wealth. It is of great value to develop a quick, accurate, visual, and high-throughput detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Here, we developed a biosensor based on CRISPR/Cas13a combined with recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) to detect S and Orf1ab genes of SARS-CoV-2 within 30 min.

The Afro-Asian summer monsoon (AfroASM) sustains billions of people living in many developing countries covering West Africa and Asia, vulnerable to climate change. Future increase in AfroASM precipitation has been projected by current state-of-the-art climate models, but large inter-model spread exists. Here we show that the projection spread is related to present-day interhemispheric thermal contrast (ITC).

Here, we established a strategy (MPT-Cas12a/13a) that combined CRISPR/Cas12a and Cas13a for simultaneously detecting CaMV35S and T-nos based on multiplex PCR (M-PCR) and transcription. It realized a simultaneous detection mode with different signals in the same space. The MPT-Cas12a/13a had excellent sensitivity with the limit of detection as low as 11 copies of T-nos and 13 copies of CaMV35S and it had outstanding specificity and anti-interference ability in actual sample analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Circularly polarized light (CPL) is crucial for technologies in optoelectronics and chiro-spintronics, but is mainly found in chiral perovskites.
  • A new method has been developed to induce CPL activity in achiral perovskites, which are known for their rich compositions and efficient luminescence.
  • By creating van der Waals heterojunctions between chiral and achiral perovskites, spin-polarized electrons enhance CPL in achiral perovskites, resulting in significantly higher polarization degrees, with potential for flexible design via chemical tuning or temperature adjustments.

Surgical case scheduling is a key issue in the field of medician, which is a challenging work because of the difficulty in assigning resources to patients. This study regards the surgical case scheduling problem as a flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP). Considering the switching and preparation time of patients in different stage, an improved multi-objective imperialist competitive algorithm (IMOICA), which adopts the non-dominant sorting method, is proposed to optimize the whole scheduling.

The difficult-to-remove CaSO scale layer attached to an evaporator wall is a major problem in related industries. How to efficiently remove the CaSO scale layer and convert it into fine chemicals with high added value, so as to turn waste into treasure, is a current research hotspot. In this study, a CaSO scale layer was removed by 15 min rotary washing a phase transfer route.

2--α-d-Glucopyranosyl-l-ascorbic acid (AA-2G) is an ideal substitute for l-ascorbic acid because of its remarkable stability and improved biological activity, which can be easily applied in cosmetic, food, and medicine fields. However, impurity identification and control are significant procedures during the manufacturing of AA-2G. This study assessed a manufacturing routine of AA-2G synthesized by sucrose phosphorylase (SPase).

Background: Early enteral nutrition (EN) after abdominal surgery can improve the prognosis of patients. However, the high feeding intolerance (FI) rate is the primary factor impeding postoperative EN.

Methods: Sixty-seven patients who underwent radical subtotal or total gastrectomy for gastric cancer (GC) were randomly allocated to the preoperative oral nutritional supplement group (ONS group) or dietary advice alone (DA group).

The enzymatic synthesis of 2-O-α-d-glucopyranosyl-glycerol (2-αGG) by transglycosylation activity of sucrose phosphorylase (SPase) is a promising method for 2-αGG manufacturing. However, there are only a few SPases available for 2-αGG production. Here, we report on the characterization and application of SPase from Lactobacillus reuteri (LrSPase).

Melatonin is a well-known signaling molecule that mediates a range of physiological activities and various stress reactions in plants. We comprehensively tested the effect of melatonin on the development of root hairs and glandular trichomes and found that melatonin pretreatment of tobacco seeds significantly increased the length of root hairs. Furthermore, melatonin-treated tobacco exhibited significantly higher density of trichomes and larger glandular heads on long-stalk glandular trichomes than untreated plants, which resulted in enhanced secretion in glandular trichomes.

Here, we report on a new kind of compound, XIrX (X = P, As), the first hole-doped skutterudites superconductor. We provide atomic-resolution images of the caging As atoms using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). By inserting As atoms into the caged structure under a high pressure, superconductivity emerges with a maximum transition temperature () of 4.

Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures with strong intrinsic ferroelectrics are highly promising for novel devices with designed electronic properties. The polarization reversal transition of the 2D ferroelectric GaO monolayer offers a new approach to tune the photocatalytic and electrical properties of MoS/GaO heterogeneous bilayers. In this work, we study MoS/GaO heterogeneous bilayers with different intrinsic polarization using hybrid-functional calculations.

Zinc-thiazole is a new fungicide that was independently developed in China and has a high efficiency and low toxicity. A modified derivatization method was established to measure zinc-thiazole in foods of plant origin. Zinc-thiazole decomposed into 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (AMT) under alkaline conditions, and the AMT was extracted with acidic acetonitrile (pH = 3).

The rewiring of photosynthetic biomachineries to electrodes is a forward-looking semi-artificial route for sustainable bio-electricity and fuel generation. Currently, it is unclear how the electrode and biomaterial interface can be designed to meet the complex requirements for high biophotoelectrochemical performance. Here we developed an aerosol jet printing method for generating hierarchical electrode structures using indium tin oxide nanoparticles.

In the present study, the differences in the antioxidant capability, metabolite composition and fungal diversity in peach gum with various colours were investigated. Metabolomics revealed that peach gum comprised many small-molecule metabolites (including primary and secondary metabolites), and most polyphenols (such as flavonoids and phenolic acids) showed a significantly positive relationship with the colour deepening, total phenol content and antioxidant capability. Using fungal diversity analysis, the abundance of five fungi at the genus level increased with peach gum colour deepening, and these fungi demonstrated a significantly positive relationship with two defense hormones (salicylic acid and abscisic acid) and most polyphenols (particularly flavonoids).
