The exchange bias (EB) effect is a fundamental magnetic phenomenon, in which the exchange bias field/coercive field ratio (|H/H|) can improve the stability of spintronic devices. Two-dimensional (2D) magnetic heterostructures have the potential to construct low-power and high-density spintronic devices, while their typically air unstable and |H/H| lesser, limiting the possibility of applications. Here, 2D CrTe nanosheets have been systematically synthesized with an in situ formed ≈2 nm-thick Te doped CrO layer (Te-CrO) on the upper surface by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.

High-quality genome information is essential for efficiently deciphering and improving crop traits. Here, we report a highly contiguous and accurate hexaploid genome assembly for the key wheat breeding parent Zhou8425B, an elite 1BL/1RS translocation line with durable adult plant resistance (APR) against yellow rust (YR) disease. By integrating HiFi and Hi-C sequencing reads, we have generated a 14.

Arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) are transmitted to humans by arthropod vectors and pose a serious threat to global public health. Neurotropic arboviruses including Sindbis virus (SINV) persistently infect the central nervous system (CNS) of vector insects without causing notable pathological changes or affecting their behavior or lifespan. However, the mechanisms by which vector insects evade these viral infections in the brains are poorly understood.

Background: Loneliness among older adults, is a subjective experience and a public health issue in aging societies. Psychometrically sound and culturally sensitive measures are needed for developing precisely targeted interventions in culturally distinct groups. This study tested the Short-Form UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-8) among Chinese older adults.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how genetically modified Yarrowia lipolytica can convert volatile fatty acids (VFAs) into poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) while identifying metabolic constraints and potential improvements.
  • Yarrowia lipolytica struggles with certain VFAs due to toxicity and slow metabolism, particularly with propionate (C3) and acetate, leading to inefficiencies in PHB production.
  • Proposed strategies for enhancing acetate utilization include co-consuming it with glucose to balance energy levels, overexpressing certain enzymes to boost acetate uptake, and adjusting metabolic pathways to favor PHB synthesis.

The pathway of surface structure evolution plays a vital role in determining the stability of the halide perovskites. Understanding the mechanism of surface instability and how external stimuli interact with the surface is essential for developing strategies to mitigate the degradation of halide perovskites. Here, we directly observed structural evolutions on the surface of CsPbBr via an integrated differential phase contrast scanning transmission electron microscope.

Reverse transcription-quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is widely used to accurately assess target gene expression. Evaluating gene expression requires the selection of appropriate reference genes. To identify reliable reference genes for () under varying concentrations of broxaldine (BRO), we employed the ΔCt method, BestKeeper, NormFinder, GeNorm, and the comprehensive web-based platform RefFinder to assess the expression stability of ten candidate reference genes in .

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the under-explored microbial interactions and (bio)geochemical processes in alkaline mine environments, specifically in iron mines located in the Panxi mining area of Southwest China.
  • Compared to less impacted river samples, the iron ore samples revealed higher levels of various minerals and elements, indicating significant changes in water chemistry due to mining activity, with particular emphasis on sulfate concentrations.
  • The research identified specific microbial communities, mainly Serpentinimonas spp. and Thiobacillus spp., that thrive in high pH conditions, suggesting that these microbes play important roles in the evolution of these alkaline mine ecosystems and might help in strategies for mine restoration.

  • - Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a harmful mycotoxin affecting poultry health, particularly causing issues like reduced feed intake and weight gain in broiler chicks, which leads to liver and kidney damage.
  • - The study investigates the protective effects of bovine lactoferrin (bLF) against AFB1 toxicity, showing that bLF helped maintain normal liver and kidney function by regulating harmful biomarkers and reducing oxidative stress.
  • - BLF supplementation normalized gene expressions related to apoptosis and antioxidant defense pathways that were disrupted by AFB1 exposure, suggesting it could be a beneficial dietary addition for poultry to combat AFB1-induced damage.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationships among sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and cognitive functions in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to determine the cause-effect dynamics.
  • Researchers collected data from 134 MCI patients in Ningbo, China, across multiple time points using standardized assessment tools to measure mental health and cognitive performance.
  • Findings suggest that poor sleep quality is linked to more severe depressive symptoms, which in turn contribute to greater cognitive decline, indicating that addressing sleep quality and depression may improve cognitive health in this population.

Consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) has been implicated in cognitive deficits and gastrointestinal dysfunction in humans, with the gut microbiota emerging as a pivotal mediator of these diet-associated pathologies. The introduction of plant-based polysaccharides into the diet as a therapeutic strategy to alleviate such conditions is gaining attention. Nevertheless, the mechanistic paradigm by which polysaccharides modulate the gut microbiota remains largely undefined.

Objective: Previous studies have reported that the inappropriate use of allopurinol may increase the risk of cerebrovascular accidents, but some studies have also confirmed that allopurinol is a protective factor against stroke. To clarify whether there is a relevant causal relationship between allopurinol and cerebral infarction, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study.

Methods: Data on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with allopurinol and genome-wide association studies of cerebral infarction were obtained from the genome-wide association study (GWAS) web site.

The aim of this research is to establish and validate a prognostic model for predicting prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with bone metastases. Overall, 176 NSCLC patients with bone metastases were retrospectively evaluated in the research. We employed the LASSO-Cox regression method to select the candidate indicators for predicting the prognosis among NSCLC patients complicated with bone metastases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare how tofacitinib and adalimumab affect the risk of adverse lipidaemia outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • A total of 7,580 patients were analyzed, with findings showing that those on tofacitinib had a higher risk of dyslipidaemia compared to those on adalimumab, but there were no significant differences in major adverse cardiac events or all-cause mortality between the two groups.
  • The conclusion suggests that while tofacitinib may increase the risk of dyslipidaemia, it does not appear to impact major cardiovascular events or overall death rates as compared to adalimumab.*

Perovskite monocrystalline films are regarded as desirable candidates for the integration of high-performance optoelectronics due to their unique photophysical properties. However, the heterogeneous integration of a perovskite monocrystalline film with other semiconductors is fundamentally limited by the lattice mismatch, which hinders direct epitaxy. Herein, the van der Waals (vdW) integration strategy for 3D perovskites is developed, where perovskite monocrystalline films are epitaxially grown on the mother substrate, followed by its peeling off and transferring to arbitrary semiconductors, forming monocrystalline heterojunctions.

There is an urgent need to find new solutions for the global dilemma of increasing antibiotic resistance in humans and animals. Modifying the performance of existing antibiotics using the nanocarrier drug delivery system (DDS) is a good option considering economic costs, labor costs, and time investment compared to the development of new antibiotics. Numerous studies on nanomedicine carriers that can be used for humans are available in the literature, but relatively few studies have been reported specifically for veterinary pharmaceutical products.
