Preoperative ultrasound examination of thyroid nodules is the most economical and effective screening method for diagnosing thyroid nodules. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) cytology guided by ultrasound has high sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing benign and malignant thyroid nodules. However, approximately 25% of thyroid nodules cannot be determined by FNAB, and accurate differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid nodules is critical for patient prognosis.

As immune cells, neutrophils serve as the first line of defense against infections; however, the mechanism by which neutrophils regulate lipid metabolism is unknown. The neutrophil depletion group was treated with 100 μg InVivoMAb anti-mouse Ly6G 6 times, whereas the control group mice were intraperitoneally injected with the same quantity of InVivoMAb rat IgG2a. Body fat content, triglycerides (TGs), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in the jejunum and ileum, as well as 9 long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) in the intestinal contents were significantly decreased.

Background: Chronic alcohol drinking causes hepatic vitamin A (retinoids and derivatives) decreases, which correlate with the progression and severity of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). However, the effects of short-term ethanol (EtOH) intake on liver retinoids and ALD are still undefined.

Methods: Using high-performance liquid chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS), and molecular biology techniques in mice and cultured human hepatocytes, we investigated the temporal EtOH effects on retinoids and ALD.

The use of contraceptives to prevent unintended pregnancies is not widely accepted in developing countries due to social and cultural factors, lack of knowledge, and limited access to contraceptive services. This results in a relatively high incidence of repeat abortions in women with live births. The objective of this study is to understand the awareness of contraceptive use in women with live births women with previous live births who currently underwent an abortion (n = 272) and women who had a recent live birth (n = 323) voluntarily participated in this survey.

Mesoscale building blocks are instrumental in bridging multilevel hierarchical mineralization, endowing macroscale entities with remarkable functionality and mechanical properties. However, the mechanism orchestrating the homogeneous morphology of mesoscale mineralized motifs in collagen-based hard tissues remains unknown. Here, utilizing avian tendons as a mineralization model, we reveal a robust correlation between the mesoscale mineralized spherules and the presence of phosvitin.

This systematic review and meta-analysis considered the results of randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of systemic or local antibiotic therapy in peri-implantitis. Two independent authors screened publications from three electronic databases to include RCTs meeting all the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the weighted mean differences in survival rate (SR) and changes in pocket probing depth (PPD), bone level (BL), and clinical attachment level (CAL).

The melanization process, which is essential for the proper functioning of the cuticle, has been extensively investigated for its enzymatic roles and physiological effects. Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata, a significant pest species, presents considerable economic threats. However, due to the variable efficiency of RNA interference for genetic manipulation, establishing a CRISPR/Cas9 system is crucial for providing a more precise and reliable method for functional genomics in this non-model insect.

To investigate the efficacy of different treatment of oral lichen planus (OLP) patients with thyroid antibody positive and its correlation with thyroid antibody, providing more targeted treatment for OLP patients with thyroid antibody positive. Patients who were admitted to department of Oral Medicine, Stomatology Hospital, School of Stomatology, Zhejiang University School of Medicine for OLP with serum thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) from February 2020 to June 2024 were included. Demographic and clinical data were recorded, and qualitative status and quantitative titers of TPOAb/TGAb were collected.

The choroid plexus (CP) serves as the primary source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The blood-CSF barrier, composed of tight junctions among the epithelial cells in the CP, safeguards CSF from unrestricted exposure to bloodborne factors. This barrier is thus indispensable to brain homeostasis and is associated with age-related neural disorders.

Cadmium (Cd), a non-essential heavy metal for plant, adversely effects on crop productivity and food safety. Cotton, predominantly cultivated as a non-food crop, offers the advantage of not transferring Cd into the food chain, making it an effective option for remediating Cdcontaminated soils. While previous researches have extensively examined the gene expression responses of cotton to Cd stress, insights at the post-transcriptional level remain limited.

Developing multifunctional water purification materials is of great significance for the elimination of organic pollutants and bacterial pathogens in industrial wastewater. Herein, we report a novel green material, bacterial cellulose/molybdenum disulfide/titanium oxide (BC/MoS/TiO) composite film, through one-step biosynthesis, and its application in industrial wastewater treatment. The systematic physicochemical characterization of BC/MoS/TiO demonstrated that MoS and TiO were effectively incorporated into the BC porous network matrix.

Atmospheric organic aerosols (OAs) influence Earth's climate by absorbing sunlight. However, the link between their evolving composition and their absorptive effects is unclear. We demonstrate that brown nitrogen (BrN), the absorptive nitrogenous component of OAs, dominates their global absorption.

Behçet's uveitis (BU) is a severe ocular manifestation of Behçet's disease, typically accompanied by abnormal neutrophil infiltration and hyperactivation. However, the underlying causes of excessive neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) production and mechanisms by which NETs contribute to the pathogenesis of BU remain incompletely understood. Neutrophils from BU patients exhibit a higher propensity for NETs release compared to healthy controls.

Introduction: Global warming has profoundly transformed the natural environment and significantly impacted people's production methods, thereby promoting low-carbon consumption behaviors. While numerous scholars have examined the factors influencing low-carbon consumption behavior, their analyses predominantly rely on classical theoretical frameworks such as planned behavior theory, value-belief-norm theory and The ABC attitude theory. However, there is a notable scarcity of studies investigating the relationship between the social environment and low-carbon behaviors among youth groups.

Long non-coding RNA HOXC cluster antisense RNA 1 (HOXC-AS1) exhibits elevated expression in gastric and prostate cancers, yet its involvement in esophageal cancer (EC) remains unexplored. This investigation assessed the expression patterns and functional implications of HOXC-AS1 in EC. Quantitative real-time PCR was employed to evaluate HOXC-AS1 expression in EC cell lines, while its impact on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, tumor growth, and metastasis was examined through MTT, EdU, transwell, wound healing assays, and animal models.

Background: Detecting lesions in esophageal cancer (EC) is important in guiding subsequent treatment. Deep learning methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and vision transformer (ViT) have made remarkable strides in the field of medical image analysis due to their powerful representational capabilities. However, without prior knowledge, both traditional CNNs and ViTs are susceptible to disregarding critical anatomical information, including loops and voids.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a devastating cancer with a dismal prognosis due to distant metastasis. Through an analysis of large RNA sequencing and proteomics datasets, we found that high KRT7 expression in PDAC patients was correlated with liver metastasis and poor survival. A functional investigation revealed that the overexpression of KRT7 promoted liver metastasis but did not affect tumor cell proliferation in vivo or in vitro.
