Ibuprofen (IBU), a commonly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is frequently detected in wastewater treatment systems, where it can interfere with nitrogen removal. This study investigated the effects of IBU on nitrogen removal performance and its biotransformation in a coupled sulfur autotrophic denitrification and anammox (SAD/A) system. Moreover, key parameters, such as nitrogen removal efficiency, microbial activity, community structure, and IBU degradation products, were carefully monitored.

Methods for perceiving thrombi heterogeneity of thrombolysis resistance is urgently needed for precise thrombolysis. Here, we revealed the relationship between the thrombin heterogeneity and the thrombolysis resistance in thrombi and created an artificial biomarker-based nano-patrol system with robotic functional logic to perceive and report the thrombolysis resistance of thrombi.

"Cell factory" strategy based on microbial anabolism pathways offers an intriguing alternative to relieve the dependence on fossil fuels, which are recognized as the main sources of CO emission. Typically, anabolism of intracellular substance in cell factory requires the consumption of sufficient reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide /nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate NAD(P)H and adenosine triphosphate ATP. However, it is of great challenge to modify the natural limited anabolism and to increase the insufficient level of NAD(P)H and ATP to optimum concentrations without causing metabolic disorder.

However, there is an immediate necessity to develop conditional expression systems that confine the activity of EcN specifically in the gastrointestinal tract, to avoid influencing the environment. Here, we constructed two genetically encoded interchangeable sensors responsive to body temperature at 37 °C, and small molecules such as protocatechuic acid (PCA), a metabolite found in green tea.

While vaccination represents a potential strategy for disease prevention, there is currently no effective vaccine available for humans to prevent cystic echinococcosis (CE). This study aimed to design a novel multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) against Echinococcus granulosus for human use, employing immunoinformatics methods.

A growing number of studies have shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in many biological processes, including the regulation of innate immunity and IAV replication. In addition, IAV has been found to be able to hijack lncRNAs and thus antagonize host innate immunity. Nonetheless, whether IAV can antagonize host innate immunity by weakening the antiviral functions mediated by lncRNAs is unknown.

Ferroptosis has been shown to play a key role in the injury process. In the present study, we wanted to explore whether electroacupuncture could inhibit ferroptosis by promoting nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) nuclear translocation.

Purpose: With the development of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology, the duration of ECMO support has gradually increased, leading to an increased risk of ECMO-related bacterial resistance. Polymyxin B (PMB) is used to treat drug-resistant bacterial infections. However, the pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of antibiotics may change during ECMO, resulting in over- or under-exposure.

Probiotics have received wide attention as a potential management in CKD. We investigated the effects of Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 (LP N1115) on intestinal microbiota and related short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in end stage kidney disease patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD) in a single-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

Also, the gut microbiota that involved in producing indole derivatives are less studied. We identified microbial taxa that can predict serum concentrations of the key indole metabolite indole-3-propionic acid (IPA) at population level and investigated the associations of indole derivatives and IPA-predicting microbial genera with cardiometabolic risk markers.

The obtained NIR II persistent luminescent ZGGO:Ni can not only respond to temperature but also the specific solvent stimulus. The results demonstrate that the NIR II persistent luminescence intensity decreases in hydroxyl containing solvent such as water (HO) and ethyl alcohol (CHO), while the PL intensity remains in solvent without hydroxyl groups such as n-hexane (CH) and deuterated water (DO).

Methods: Patients with severe influenza A and B admitted to Henan Children's Hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 were used as the modeling group (n = 161), and patients admitted from January to September 2023 were used as the validation group (n = 52). Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the risk variables of severe influenza A and B in children in the modeling group.
Programming precise and specific microbial intraspecies or interspecies interaction would be powerful for microbial metabolic regulation, signal pathway mechanism understanding, and therapeutic application. However, it is still of great challenge to develop a simple and universal method to artificially encode the microbial interactions without interfering with the intrinsic cell metabolism. Here, we proposed an extensible and flexible framework nucleic acid strategy for encoding the specific and precise microbial interactions upon self-assembly.

While the existence of free radicals in aged plastics has been known for over half a century, only recently has significant research on a new type of environmentally risky substance, namely environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs), present in aged MPs and their environmental effects, been started, but it is still in its infancy. To address these issues, this work examines EPFR generation on MPs and their environmental effect by reviewing publications from 2012 to 2023.

Herein, based on density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, we investigated the ion migration and moisture stability for MAPbI passivated with a Lewis base represented by natural molecules: cinnamaldehyde (CA) and anethole (AT). The results reveal that hydrogen bonding in different forms plays a significant role in both ion migration and moisture stability for surface passivation.
