Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic cardiac disease, and its main characteristic is symmetrical or asymmetrical hypertrophy of the left ventricle and/or right ventricle. Most previous studies mainly include the left ventricle for definition of HCM, thus neglecting the right ventricle. But recently, many studies have reported the right ventricular involvement in HCM.

A colorimetric and fluorescent dual-channel detection method for acid phosphatase (ACP) activity has been constructed, based on the internal filtering effect between oxidized 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (oxTMB) and rhodamine B (RB). Au, which in situ form gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), can oxidize colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to oxTMB (blue color). The fluorescence of RB can be quenched by oxTMB due to the spectral overlap of emission of RB and absorption of oxTMB.

Precision mapping of glycans at structural and site-specific level is still one of the most challenging tasks in the glycobiology field. Here, we describe a modularization strategy for de novo interpretation of N-glycan structures on intact glycopeptides using tandem mass spectrometry. An algorithm named StrucGP is also developed to automate the interpretation process for large-scale analysis.

Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) has been widely studied as a biomaterial for tissue engineering. Most studies focus on mammalian gelatin, but certain factors, such as mammalian diseases and diet restrictions, limit the use of mammalian gelatin. Thus, fish gelatin has received much attention as a substitute material in recent years.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in multiple biological processes and can be used as biomarkers for clinical disease diagnosis, so their detection is of great importance. Here, manganese dioxide (MnO) nanosheet acts as carrier to deliver DNAzyme probes into cells through endocytosis, where intracellular glutathione (GSH) reduces the MnO nanosheet to manganese ions (Mn) and releases the probes. The generated Mn can be further used as an effective cofactor to activate the DNAzyme probe, and cleave the DNA strand into two fragments.

Widow(er)s experience significant sleep disruption that may dysregulate immune functioning. This longitudinal study aimed to determine 1) whether changes in sleep quality were associated with changes in pro-inflammatory cytokine production during the first six months of bereavement and 2) whether these relationships depended on objective socioeconomic status (SES) and/or subjective social status. One hundred and six bereaved spouses ( = 68.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the major cause of lower respiratory tract infections in children. Inactivated RSV vaccine was developed in the late 1960's, but the vaccine-enhanced disease (VED) occurred to vaccinated infants upon subsequent natural RSV infection. The excessive inflammatory immunopathology in the lungs might be involved in the VED, but the underlying mechanisms remain not fully understood.

In this paper, the effects of ultrasonic probe position, vessel shape, and ultrasonic input power on the sound pressure distribution in the reactor were investigated by solving the Helmholtz equation using COMSOL Multiphysis software. Three different types of glass containers were used in the study, which are beaker, Erlenmeyer flask, and round bottom flask. The maximum value of sound pressure in the three containers will gradually increase when the distance between the probe and the bottom of the container decreases.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been recognized as an important step toward high invasion and metastasis of many cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), while the mechanism for EMT promotion is still ambiguous. The dynamic alterations of site-specific glycosylation during HGF/TGF-β1-induced EMT process of three HCC cell lines were systematically investigated using precision glycoproteomic methods. The possible roles of EMT-related glycoproteins and site-specific glycans were further confirmed by various molecular biological approaches.

Capturing gaseous Hg using regenerable metal sulfides is a promising technology to recover gaseous Hg from both coal-fired flue gas (CFG) and smelting flue gas (SFG) for the centralized control. Gaseous Hg concentration in SFG is 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than that in CFG; therefore, the design strategy of metal sulfides for capturing gaseous Hg from CFG is quite different from that from SGF. In this work, the structure-activity relationship of metal sulfides to capture Hg was investigated according to the remarkable difference in MoO loading on sulfureted FeTiO to capture low/high concentrations of gaseous Hg.

In this work, the commercial selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst VO-MoO/TiO was sulfureted with HS to improve both its capability for elemental mercury (Hg) removal at low temperatures and its resistance to SO and HO. Hg removal over both VO-MoO/TiO and sulfureted VO-MoO/TiO involved the catalytic oxidation of Hg to HgCl and the chemical adsorption of gaseous Hg; therefore, the effect of sulfuration on Hg chemical adsorption and the catalytic oxidation of Hg to HgCl over VO-MoO/TiO and its resistance to SO and HO were investigated using Hg balance analysis. Kinetic analysis showed that the rates of the chemical adsorption and oxidation of Hg were both in direct proportion to the concentration of physically adsorbed Hg.
