Ships generate large amounts of air pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide (NO) that profoundly impacts air quality and poses serious threats to human health. It is crucial to understand the dynamics and drivers of ship-induced NO concentrations in China to support the prevention and control of fine particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O) pollution. This study built Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to reveal the nonlinear effects of meteorological factors and ship emissions on ship-induced NO concentrations based on the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) satellite data, AIS based emission model and meteorological data.

The vibration signal of the spindle motor contains complicated mixed modulation harmonics and background noise when computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools perform machining tasks. Additionally, frequent changes in the running speed of the spindle motor cause significant variations in the signal feature distribution, making fault diagnosis challenging. The adaptive sinusoidal fusion convolutional neural networks (ASFCNN) is proposed to achieve cross-speed spindle motor bearings fault diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare dosimetric outcomes of vaginal brachytherapy using two methods: single-channel vaginal cylinder (SCVC) and free-hand interstitial needles (FIN) in treating gynecologic tumors after surgery and external beam radiation therapy.
  • - Out of 22 women treated, both methods achieved similar coverage of the high-risk clinical target volume (HR-CTV), but the FIN technique had better dose distribution and resulted in lower doses to critical organs like the rectum and bladder compared to SCVC.
  • - The findings suggest that the FIN technique is a more effective option for high-dose-rate vaginal brachytherapy in minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding organs while ensuring adequate treatment coverage.

We herein rationally designed a target-recyclable AIE-biosensor based on a split G-quadruplex for label-free detection of miRNA in acute kidney injury. Initially, the PG was in an "OFF" state, and the two split segments (G4-a and G4-b) of G4 were tethered at the two terminals of P1 and far away from each other due to the rigid duplex structure formed by the partially complementary intermediate sequences of P2 and P1, bringing MG with quenched fluorescence. In the presence of target, the 5'-PO P2 was displaced from PG probe and competitively hybridized with target, which led to G4-a and G4-b tending to form an intact intermolecular G-quadruplex, providing sites for MG intercalation, thus generating an activated "ON" fluorescence signal due to the restriction of intermolecular motion.

Sulfur-oxide (SO) emissions from ports are a crucial environmental concern due to their impact on air quality. European ports, particularly in sulfur emission control areas (ECAs), are under a stringent regulation to reduce SO emissions; thus, evaluating emission efficiencies and identifying improvement pathways for ports are crucial for developing effective environmental strategies. The research employs a Context-dependent Slack-Based Measure Data Envelopment Analysis (SBM-DEA) model to evaluate the SO emissions efficiency of 70 major European ports from 2006 to 2018 through introducing multi-layered efficiency frontiers to categorize these ports into the efficiency levels and identify specific improvement targets.

HDAC11 is an epigenetic repressor of gene transcription, acting through its deacetylase activity to remove functional acetyl groups from the lysine residues of histones at genomic loci. It has been implicated in the regulation of different immune responses, metabolic activities, as well as cell cycle progression. Recent studies have also shed lights on the impact of HDAC11 on myogenic differentiation and muscle development, indicating that HDAC11 is important for histone deacetylation at the promoters to inhibit transcription of cell cycle related genes, thereby permitting myogenic activation at the onset of myoblast differentiation.
