MicroRNAs play important roles in gene regulation, and their expression is frequently dysregulated in cancer cells. In a previous study, we reported that miR-193b represses cell proliferation and regulates cyclin D1 in melanoma cells, suggesting that miR-193b could act as a tumor suppressor. Herein, we demonstrate that miR-193b also down-regulates myeloid cell leukemia sequence 1 (Mcl-1) in melanoma cells.

To better understand the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in melanoma, the expression of 470 miRNAs was profiled in tissue samples from benign nevi and metastatic melanomas. We identified 31 miRNAs that were differentially expressed (13 up-regulated and 18 down-regulated) in metastatic melanomas relative to benign nevi.

A female patient with anemia and hypoalbuminemia was admitted to our hospital due to an over 20-year history of recurrent dizziness, fatigue and ankle edema. She was diagnosed as multiple chronic non-specific ulcer of the small intestine characterized by non-specific histology and persistent gastrointestinal bleeding.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, noncoding RNAs that suppress gene expression at the posttranscriptional level via an antisense RNA-RNA interaction. miRNAs used for array-based profiling are generally purified from either snap-frozen or fresh samples. Because tissues found in most pathology departments are available only in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) states, we sought to evaluate miRNA derived from FFPE samples for microarray analysis.

Background: Hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) is a severe complication of chemotherapy before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and dietary ingestion of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Many experimental models were established to study its mechanisms or therapy, but few are ideal. This work aimed at evaluating a rat model of HVOD induced by monocrotaline to help advance research into this disease.

The structural characteristics of Fusarium have received attention from both pure and applied scientists. Because many genes and physiological mechanisms are involved in the development of a particular structure type, this research is complicated. For revealing the structure of macromolecule in these fungal cells, FT-IR spectroscopy combined with multivariate statistical analysis was performed to characterize the structure of protein and polysaccharide of spores and mycelia obtained from different culture medium.

Objective: To develop the Taqman MGB real-time fluorescent PCR assay for rapid detection of Dengue viruses.
Methods: Using Taqman MGB technique, a pair of universal primers and Taqman MGB probe were designed according to a highly reserved sequence of the 3'-noncoding region of dengue viruses type 1-4. Dengue virus strains were used as standard and Japanese encephalitis virus strains were used as control, the real-time PCR assay for specific and sensitive detection of the dengue viruses was established.
