Cancer cell overexpresses numerus proteins, however, how these up-regulated proteins, especially those enzymatically opposite kinases and phosphatases, act together to promote oncogenesis is unknown. Here, we reported that protein tyrosine phosphatase H1 (PTPH1) is a scaffold protein for receptor tyrosine kinase (HER2) to potentiate breast tumorigenesis. PTPH1 utilizes its PDZ domain to bind HER2, p38γ, PBK, and YAP1 and to increase HER2 nuclear translocation, stemness, and oncogenesis.

In recent years, single-atom catalysts (SACs) with separated active centers and high atom utilization have grown significantly as a significant area of catalytic research. In catalytic applications, SACs of various kinds have demonstrated exceptional performance, so the study of the catalytic mechanism of SACs provides a clearer direction for the preparation of catalysts with high performance. Strong linkages between the single atoms and the support are necessary to overcome the tendency of single atoms to aggregate into clusters, which is called metal-support interaction (MSI).

Bacterial cell surface components such as lipoteichoic acids (LTAs) play critical roles in host-microbe interactions and alter host responses based on their chemical structures. Mitis group streptococci have commensal and pathogenic interactions with the human host and produce Type IV LTAs that are slightly different in chemical structures between species. To reveal the molecular bases for the intricate interactions between MGS and human hosts, a detailed understanding of the structure and biosynthetic process of MGS LTAs is needed.

The Jahn-Teller (J-T) effect-induced lattice distortion presents an advantageous approach to tailor the electronic structure and CO adsorption properties of catalytic centers, consequently conferring desirable photocatalytic CO reduction activity and selectivity. Nevertheless, achieving precise J-T distortion control over catalytic sites to enhance CO adsorption/activation and target-product desorption remains a formidable challenge. In this work, we successfully induced J-T lattice distortion in neighboring Ni sites by exchanging high-spin Mn into Ni-O-Ni nodes.

  • Hemoperfusion is a key treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and works by filtering toxins from the blood, making the efficiency of adsorbents used crucial for effective therapy.
  • This study focuses on using carbonized and activated areca nut shells, a common waste material, to create porous adsorbents that are tested for their ability to remove toxins from blood.
  • Results indicate that these new adsorbents are more effective than traditional ones, significantly reducing uremic toxins in both simulated and actual blood samples from CKD patients and animal models, showcasing their potential for enhancing treatment outcomes in progressive CKD.

Courtship interactions are remarkably diverse in form and complexity among species. How neural circuits evolve to encode new behaviors that are functionally integrated into these dynamic social interactions is unknown. Here we report a recently originated female sexual behavior in the island endemic Drosophila species D.

Ferroptosis is a cell death mechanism mediated by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Although ferroptosis has garnered attention as a cancer-suppressing mechanism, there are still limited markers available for identifying ferroptotic cells or assessing their sensitivity to ferroptosis. The study focused on biliverdin, an endogenous reducing substance in cells, and examined the dynamics of intracellular biliverdin during ferroptosis using a biliverdin-binding cyanobacteriochrome.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common adverse outcome following nephrectomy. The progression from AKI to acute kidney disease (AKD) and subsequently to chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains a concern; yet, the predictive mechanisms for these transitions are not fully understood. Interpretable machine learning (ML) models offer insights into how clinical features influence long-term renal function outcomes after nephrectomy, providing a more precise framework for identifying patients at risk and supporting improved clinical decision-making processes.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) increase with eutrophication depending on the nutrient structure (availability and ratios), but an unequivocal causal link between these factors is rarely established. Here, we provide support for the causal link between the nitrogen structure and physiological processes of Ulva prolifera as the causative species of Yellow Sea green tides (YSGTs) using in situ and laboratory experiments. The results showed that the components of nitrogen nutrients in seawater exhibited significant spatiotemporal variation.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a prevalent complication in older people, elevating the risks of acute kidney disease (AKD) and mortality. AKD reflects the adverse events developing after AKI. We aimed to develop and validate machine learning models for predicting the occurrence of AKD, AKI and mortality in older patients.

Recent research has indicated that formononetin demonstrates a potent anti-inflammatory effect in various diseases. However, its impact on sterile inflammation kidney injury, specifically acute kidney injury (AKI), remains unclear. In this study, we utilized an ischemia/reperfusion-induced AKI (IRI-AKI) mouse model and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) to investigate the effects of formononetin on sterile inflammation of AKI and to explore the underlying mechanism.

Many food proteins can be assembled into nanofibrils under pH conditions far from the isoelectric point and with a low ionic strength by heating them for a long period. These food protein nanofibrils (FPN) have outstanding functional and biological properties and are considered sustainable biomaterials in many fields. In this study, we review the recent developments in FPN gels and introduce the key factors in promoting food protein self-assembly in order to create functional gels.

Two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) with alternating structure of the organic and inorganic layers have a natural quantum well structure. The difference of dielectric constants between organic and inorganic layers in this structure results in the enhancement of dielectric confinement effect, which exhibits a large exciton binding energy and hinders the separation of electron-hole pairs. Herein, a strategy to reduce the dielectric confinement effect by narrowing the dielectric difference between organic amine molecule and [PbBr] octahedron is put forward.

Background: Research into the acute kidney disease (AKD) after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is rare, and how clinical features influence its prognosis remain unknown. We aim to employ interpretable machine learning (ML) models to study AIS and clarify its decision-making process in identifying the risk of mortality.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving AIS patients from January 2020 to June 2021.

The therapy of the clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is crucial for the human healthcare due to its easy metastasis and recurrence, as well as resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In this work, we propose the synthesis of MoS@red phosphorus (MoS@RP) heterojunction to induce synergistic photodynamic and photothermal therapy (PDT/PTT) of ccRCC. The MoS@RP heterojunction exhibits enhanced spectra absorption in the NIR range and produce local heat-increasing under the NIR laser irradiation compared with pure MoS and RP.
