Stimuli-responsive hydrogel actuators have attracted tremendous interest in switches and microrobots. Based on -isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) monomers with LCST phase separation and photochromic molecule spiropyran which can respond to ultraviolet light and H+, we develop a novel multistimuli-responsive co-polymer anisotropic bilayer hydrogel, which can undergo complex deformation behavior under environmental stimuli. Diverse bending angles were achieved based on inhomogeneous swelling.

In this study, we developed a technology for broadening the 465 nm and 535 nm excitation peaks of Eu:Y(MoO) via crystal lattice orderly arrangement. This was achieved by powder particle aggregation and diffusion at a high temperature to form a ceramic structure. The powdered Eu:Y(MoO) was synthesized using the combination of a sol-gel process and the high-temperature solid-state reaction method, and it then became ceramic via a sintering process.

Parathyroid gland (PG) injury is the most common complication of thyroidectomy owing to the lack of approaches for surgeons to effectively distinguish PGs from surrounding thyroid glands (TGs) in the operation room. Herein, we report the development of biodegradable iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) as a promising contrast agent candidate for intraoperative PG visualization. We elucidated that locally administrated dark-colored IONPs readily diffuse in TGs but cannot infiltrate tissue-dense PGs, yielding a distinguishable contrast enhancement between PGs and TGs by naked eye observation.

Although cancer immunotherapy has achieved remarkable progress, the clinical treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is still tough to make a breakthrough. The unsatisfactory therapeutic effect may be attributed to the lack of tumor immunogenicity and the strong immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITM). In order to overcome the above shortcomings, engineering nanoparticles (P-aCD24/CEL + P/shMFN1) was designed to deliver anti-CD24 monoclonal antibody (aCD24), celastrol (CEL) and mitofusin 1 shRNA (shMFN1) for synergistic tumor cells-targeted treatment and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs)-targeted immunomodulation.

Calcium phosphate (CaP) bioceramics are broadly employed for bone regeneration due to their excellent biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. However, they are not capable of repairing healing-impaired bone defects such as defects with conditions of ischemia or infection due to restricted bioactivities. In this study, we synthesized single-phased strontium-zinc-phosphate (SZP, SrZn(PO)) bioceramics a solution combustion method and further fabricated SZP scaffolds using a three-dimensional (3D) printing technique.

In clinical practice, it has become urgent to develop multifunctional wound dressings that can combat infection and prompt wound healing simultaneously. In this study, we proposed a polydopamine/alginate/nanoselenium composite hydrogel (Alg-PDA-Se) for the treatment of infected wounds. In particular, polydopamine endows the composite hydrogel with controllable near-infrared photothermal properties, while low-dosage selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) offer excellent anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, pro-proliferative, pro-migration, and pro-angiogenic performances, which are verified by multiple cells, including macrophages, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells.

4D printing of metallic shape-morphing systems can be applied in many fields, including aerospace, smart manufacturing, naval equipment, and biomedical engineering. The existing forming materials for metallic 4D printing are still very limited except shape memory alloys. Herein, a 4D printing method to endow non-shape-memory metallic materials with active properties is presented, which could overcome the shape-forming limitation of traditional material processing technologies.

Inhibitors of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2) histone methyltransferase EZH2 are approved for certain cancers, but realizing their wider utility relies upon understanding PRC2 biology in each cancer system. Using a genetic model to delete Ezh2 in KRAS-driven lung adenocarcinomas, we observed that Ezh2 haplo-insufficient tumors were less lethal and lower grade than Ezh2 fully-insufficient tumors, which were poorly differentiated and metastatic. Using three-dimensional cultures and in vivo experiments, we determined that EZH2-deficient tumors were vulnerable to H3K27 demethylase or BET inhibitors.

The development of efficient catalytic multicomponent reactions (MCRs) is highly sought-after in chemical synthesis. However, catalytic asymmetric MCRs, particularly involving radical species, remain largely underdeveloped due to the exceptionally high reactivity of open-shell radical species. Herein, we report a metallaphotoredox-catalyzed asymmetric three-component method to access a diverse array of enantio-enriched α-alkenyl phosphonates from readily available vinyl phosphonates, alkenyl halides, and alkyl trifluoroborates under mild conditions.

Carefully orchestrated opening and closing of ion channels control the diffusion of ions across cell membranes, generating the electrical signals required for fast transmission of information throughout the nervous system. Inactivation is a parsimonious means for channels to restrict ion conduction without the need to remove the activating stimulus. Voltage-gated channel inactivation plays crucial physiological roles, such as controlling action potential duration and firing frequency in neurons.

Highly conductive, durable, and breathable metal-coated textiles are critical building block materials for future wearable electronics. In order to enhance the metal adhesion on the textile surface, existing solution-based approaches to preparing these materials require time-consuming presynthesis and/or premodification processes, typically in the order of tens of minutes to hours, on textiles prior to metal plating. Herein, we report a UV-induced rapid polymer-assisted metal deposition (r-PAMD) that offers a destructive-treatment-free process to deposit highly conductive metals on a wide variety of textile materials, including cotton, polyester, nylon, Kevlar, glass fiber, and carbon cloth.
