This study compared the effectiveness of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) using methylene blue versus curcumin for treating oral candidiasis in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
Out of 447 potential participants, 108 were included in the trial, with groups receiving either methylene blue (57 patients) or curcumin (51 patients) for treatment across four sessions.
Results showed no significant difference in treatment failure, but the methylene blue treatment was more effective in reducing the number of infected anatomical sites compared to the curcumin treatment.
