Herein, photophysical and electronic properties of a newly synthesized D-π-A-π-D benzothiadiazole derivative referred to 'R' molecule, were theoretically improved. Using Density Functional Theory (DFT), and it extended TDDFT methodologies, a news SMi (i = 1-4) benzothiadiazole derivatives are designed and studied by the modification of the acceptor (A) ring. Theoretical calculations show that going from R molecules to SMi ones, an intramolecular charge transfer is obtained.

Crown gall (CG) is a globally distributed and economically important disease of grapevine and other important crop plants. The causal agent of CG is or strains that harbor a tumor-inducing plasmid (pTi). The microbial community within the CG tumor has not been widely elucidated and it is not known if certain members of this microbial community promote or inhibit CG.

Deep Vein Thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (DVT/PE) is one of the most common causes of unexpected death for hospital in-patients. D-dimer is used as a biomarker within blood for the diagnosis of DVT/PE. We report a low-cost microfluidic device with a conveniently biofunctionalised interdigitated electrode (IDE) array and a portable impedimetric reader as a point-of-care (POC) device for the detection of D-dimer to aid diagnosis of DVT/PE.

Prospecting of local grapevine ( L.) germplasm revealed that Tunisia possesses a rich patrimony which presents diversified organoleptic characteristics. However, viral diseases seriously affect all local grapevine cultivars which risk a complete extinction.

Herein we present a microfluidic-multiplexed platform that integrates electrochemical sensors based on carbon nanotubes associated with ferrocene as redox marker (carbon nanotube (CNT)/ferrocene) for direct detection of pathogenic viral DNA from Hepatitis C and genomic DNA from Mycobacterium tuberculosis in clinical isolates. By operating the fluidic device under high flow (150 μl/min), the formation of a very thin depletion layer at the sensor surface (δS = 230 nm) enhances the capture rate up to one DNA strand per second. By comparison, this capture rate is only 0.

The electrochemical response of the fluorogenic label naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxyaldehyde (NDA) in a binary mixture of water/methanol was characterized with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) electrochemical techniques. Naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxyaldehyde does exist in three isomeric forms in aqueous solution: the unhydrated dialdehyde (DA), the acyclic monohydrated (MA) and the cyclic hemiacetal (HAC). The study underlines that the proportion of each of them varies according to the working pH.

This paper describes the measurement of the electroosmotic mobility (EOF) in a Wheatstone fluidic bridge (μFWB) as a direct probe of the surface instability. The variation of EOF known as one major contribution of the electrokinetic migration has been determined with a real-time measurement platform after different conditionings on chips. We also scan the pH of the background electrolytes with three different ionic strengths to evaluate the dependencies of the EOF as a function of the pH.

An alternative to a three-electrode set-up for electrochemical detection and analysis in microfluidic chips is described here. The design of the electrochemical sensor consists of the surface of the glass substrate covered with a PDMS block which bears the microfluidic channels. A band microelectrode which acts as a working electrode surrounded by a large counter electrode is obtained at the micrometric level to propose a simple and efficient sensing area for on-a-chip analysis.

A survey on the occurrence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in wines and beers produced in Tunisia was carried out. Wines and beers were analysed using immunoaffinity column clean-up and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to a fluorometric detector. OTA was detected in 29 wine samples, with an incidence of contamination of 85%.

We describe a rapid and sensitive method for detection and quantification of d-dimer which is a biomarker present at elevated concentrations in patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) disorders. The method uses an immunosensor based on a single-chain antibody (ScAb) immobilized on a transducer surface and with a densely packed receptor layer. Detection is based on the redox activity of a N-alpha bis(carboxymethyl)-L-lysine (ANTA)/Cu2+ complex attached to a polypyrrole backbone.

A simple and highly sensitive electrochemical DNA sensor based on a ferrocene-functionalized polypyrrole has been prepared on a microelectrode array substrate for a multi-DNA detection chip format. A copolymer formed with 1-(phthalimidylbutanoate)-1'-(N-(3-butylpyrrole)butanamide)ferrocene (Py-Fe-NHP) and pyrrole was electrocopolymerized on the gold surface of both macroelectrode and biochip formats. DNA probes bearing an amino group were covalently grafted by substitution of NHP groups and the hybridization reaction was followed by monitoring the redox signal of the ferrocenyl group acting as the probe.

The occurrence of ochratoxin A (OTA) and the identification of the ochratoxigenic microbiota in Tunisian grapes were studied for the first time. Black aspergilli were the dominant genus among the filamentous fungi isolated from grapes and were the only potential OTA-producing fungi found. The most abundant species were member of Aspergillus niger aggregate (63%) and Aspergillus carbonarius (36%).
