Invisible Struggles: Exploring Challenges Faced by Women With Amputation in India.

Women in India, particularly those with amputation, face significant challenges, including but not limited to, unequal prosthetic access and satisfaction, societal discrimination, and the physical and emotional consequences of amputation. These challenges are further exacerbated by gender biases towards access to education and socioeconomic factors, which increases their vulnerability to unemployment and mental health issues. This article emphasizes the urgent need for affordable and customizable prosthetic options tailored to the unique needs of women with amputation, particularly those from low-income backgrounds who often face neglect.

The colored dyes are extensively applied in diverse industrial setups such as textiles, paper, leather, and cosmetics. The unutilized dyes are released in the waste and pose a serious menace to the environment, ecological balance, and human health. Because of their chemical nature, they are extremely resistant to common methods of treatment and often persist in the aquatic environment.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Rates Among U.S. Military Veteran Females and Males and Non-Veterans in the National Health Interview Survey.

Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major risk factor for the development of multiple cancers. Active duty service members have higher rates of HPV infection than civilians, while Veterans are diagnosed with a disproportionately high burden of HPV-associated cancers compared to civilians without prior service. While a highly effective HPV vaccine has been available for over a decade, vaccination rates in the United States remain suboptimal.

Association between bone microarchitecture and sarcopenia in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes.

Unlabelled: Bone microarchitecture, as assessed using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography, is adversely affected in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus having sarcopenia/sarcopenic obesity while areal bone mineral density does not differ between those with and without sarcopenia.

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases the risk of sarcopenia, which independently contributes to bone fragility. We aimed to explore the association between sarcopenia/sarcopenic obesity and bone quality using second-generation high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) in T2D.

Improving Cancer Care for Women Seeking Services in the Veterans Health Administration Through the Breast and Gynecological Oncology System of Excellence.

Women are the fastest growing population among Veterans and have substantial risk factors that increase their likelihood for developing cancer. To ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration (VHA) offers the best possible cancer care to women Veterans, it established the Breast and Gynecologic Oncology System of Excellence (BGSoE) in 2021. The BGSoE offers telehealth oncology services and a comprehensive cancer navigation program.

A transformative solution to build effective, transparent, and resilient "fit-for-purpose" national health research ethics systems.

The current research ethics review systems are composed of isolated institutional Research Ethics Committees (RECs) that develop their own standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates and so on, with low adoption of digital solutions to manage submission and review processes. This poses several challenges, such as delays, higher costs, and hindering multi-site research. We propose an online national research ethics platform that all RECs can use, with common review processes and documentation requirements following national policy.

Research, education and practice of tele-neurorehabilitation in low and middle-income countries: A Scoping Review.

Background: Tele-neurorehabilitation (TNR) allows for remote delivery of rehabilitation services for those with neurological disabilities. Despite growing global interest and uptake, its adoption remains challenging in Low-and-Middle-Income-Countries (LMICs).

Objective: To explore available literature on the nature of training and education, research and practice of TNR in LMICs.

A Patient-Centered Conceptual Model of AYA Cancer Survivorship Care Informed by a Qualitative Interview Study.

: Conceptual models provide frameworks to illustrate relationships among patient-, provider-, system-, and community-level factors that inform care delivery and research. Existing models of cancer survivorship care focus largely on pediatric or adult populations whose needs differ from adolescents and young adults (AYAs). We developed a patient-centered conceptual model of AYA survivorship care.

Stroke Rehabilitation Clinical Practice Guidelines in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review of Quality and Unique Features.

Introduction: Efforts toward reducing stroke burden have been an immense challenge. One important reasons could be the scope and quality of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) developed for stroke rehabilitation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), restricting its translation to clinical practice. This systematic review aimed to assess the availability, scope and quality of CPGs for stroke rehabilitation in LMICs.

Qualitative study to explore the perspectives and mental health experiences of first episode psychosis patients and their caregivers in North India.

Background: The onset of psychosis brings unfamiliar experiences that can be disturbing for patients and their caregivers. Few studies from India (only one from North India) have examined these experiences from the perspective of the patient and caregiver. We explored experiences of first episode psychosis (FEP) patients and their caregivers within a North Indian context.

Pilot study to test the feasibility and clinical efficacy of a psychosocial care programme for patients with psychosis in low-resource settings.

Background: Home-based psychosocial care has the potential to improving outcomes in patients with schizophrenia and related disorders (SCZ). There is lack of India data for such care in early psychosis. We developed the "Saksham" programme, a bespoke self-managed home-based psychosocial care model, available in two formats: manual-based and mobile-application based.

The Landscape of Care for Women Veterans with Cancer: An Evidence Map.

Background: Women are the fastest growing veteran group in the US and the number of women veterans (WVs) with cancer is rising; however, little is known about this population. Cancer care for WVs is complex and it is essential to understand their unique needs and care coordination challenges to provide evidence-based care. The purpose of this review is to map the quantity, distribution, and characteristics of literature describing cancer and its treatment among WVs.

Cabozantinib and nivolumab with or without live bacterial supplementation in metastatic renal cell carcinoma: a randomized phase 1 trial.

Supplementation with CBM588, a bifidogenic live bacterial product, has been associated with improved clinical outcomes in persons with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) receiving nivolumab and ipilimumab. However, its effect on those receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor-based combinations is unknown. In this open-label, randomized, investigator-initiated, phase 1 study, 30 participants with locally advanced or mRCC with histological confirmation of clear cell, papillary or sarcomatoid component were randomized in a 2:1 fashion to receive cabozantinib (an inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor, MET and AXL) and nivolumab (anti-programmed cell death protein 1) with or without CBM588 as first-line treatment.

A "Think Tank for Osteosarcoma" medical advisory board meeting was held in Santa Monica, CA, USA on February 2-3, 2024. The goal was to develop a strategic approach to prevent recurrence of osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma metabolism and the genomic instability of osteosarcoma, immunotherapy for osteosarcoma, CAR-T cell therapy, DeltaRex-G tumor-targeted gene therapy, repurposed drugs, alternative medicines, and personalized medicine were discussed.

Development and validation of home-based psychosocial self-management interventions in schizophrenia and related disorders in low-resource settings: A mixed methods approach.

Background: Psychosocial interventions, crucial for recovery in patients with schizophrenia, have often been developed and tested in high income countries. We aimed at developing and validating home-based a booklet based psycho-social intervention with inputs from stakeholders: patients, families, and mental health professionals (MHP) for patients with schizophrenia and related disorders in low resource settings.

Methods: We developed a preliminary version of psychosocial intervention booklets based on six themes derived from focus group discussions conducted with patients, families, and MHP.

Application of a comprehensive disability measure: Disability prevalence among US Veterans and non-veterans from the National Health Interview Survey Data from 2015 to 2018.

Background: Current measures of condition-specific disabilities or those capturing only severe limitations may underestimate disability prevalence, including among Veterans.

Objectives: To develop a comprehensive measure to characterize and compare disabilities among US Veterans and non-Veterans.

Methods: Using 2015-2018 pooled cross-sectional National Health Interview Survey data, we compared the frequency and survey-weighted prevalence of non-mutually exclusive sensory, social, and physical disabilities by Veteran status.

Protocol-based assessment and management of first episode psychosis: Comparison of short and medium-term outcomes in psychopathology, quality of life, functioning and family burden across two sites in India.

Background: Standard assessment and management protocols exist for first episode psychosis (FEP) in high income countries. Due to cultural and resource differences, these need to be modified for application in low-and middle-income countries.

Aims: To assess the applicability of standard assessment and management protocols across two cohorts of FEP patients in North and South India by examining trajectories of psychopathology, functioning, quality of life and family burden in both.

Structural features of biobased composite foams revealed by X-ray tomography.

Polymer foams can have heterogeneous and complex internal structures, especially when material blends or particles have been integrated to create composites. It becomes even more challenging to probe and understand foam structure/properties when using non-uniform particles, such as biobased fillers. Optical or SEM imaging can only provide limited information as these are two-dimensional (2D) surface techniques.

Summary of Veterans Health Administration Cancer Data Sources.

Objectives: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is a leader in generating transformational research across the cancer care continuum. Given the extensive body of cancer-related literature utilizing VHA data, our objectives are to: (1) describe the VHA data sources available for conducting cancer-related research, and (2) discuss examples of published cancer research using each data source.

Methods: We identified commonly used data sources within the VHA and reviewed previously published cancer-related research that utilized these data sources.
