Introduction: Involutional ptosis repair is the signature procedure of Oculoplastic surgeons, with significant variation in approach. We aimed to assess the surgical approach currently used by BOPSS members for routine involutional ptosis repair.

Methods: A prospective 7-question survey was carried out of BOPSS members, assessing for prevalence of anterior- versus posterior-approach, bilateral simultaneous versus staged surgery, and approach to clinical photography.

L. plants are sensitive to water stress conditions throughout their life cycle from seed germination to seed setting. This study aims at identifying quantitative trait loci (QTL) linked to tolerance to water stress mimicked by applications of 10% polyethylene glycol-6000 (PEG-6000).

Origin and evolution of the bread wheat D genome.

Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a globally dominant crop and major source of calories and proteins for the human diet. Compared with its wild ancestors, modern bread wheat shows lower genetic diversity, caused by polyploidisation, domestication and breeding bottlenecks. Wild wheat relatives represent genetic reservoirs, and harbour diversity and beneficial alleles that have not been incorporated into bread wheat.

The Association Between Oxidative Stress and the Progression of Heart Failure: A Systematic Review.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a progressive multifactorial condition where the role of oxidative stress may have implications in the pathogenesis of the disease. Despite growing interest among researchers and clinicians, the limited, unorganized, and divergent findings regarding the association between oxidative stress and the progression of heart failure (HF) have prompted us to conduct this study. Drawing upon the evolving nature of this research domain, this study is one of the first of its kind to present a systematic and comprehensive overview of the existing evidence regarding the role of oxidative stress production in the progression of HF.

IC3D Classification of Corneal Dystrophies-Edition 3.

Purpose: The International Committee for the Classification of Corneal Dystrophies (IC3D) was created in 2005 to develop a new classification system integrating current information on phenotype, histopathology, and genetic analysis. This update is the third edition of the IC3D nomenclature.

Methods: Peer-reviewed publications from 2014 to 2023 were evaluated.

Incidence of Total Blindness After Central Retinal Artery Occlusion With Ocular Neovascularization.

To determine the time-based incidence of total blindness after central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) with secondary ocular neovascularization (ONV). In this retrospective cohort study, electronic records were queried using ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes to identify patients with secondary ONV post-CRAO. Patients with possible alternative ONV etiologies, previous panretinal photocoagulation (PRP), and/or previous antivascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy were excluded.

This review provides a comprehensive overview of microbial contamination in built environments, covering sources, sampling strategies, and analysis methods.

Aquatic ecosystems provide a large number of cultural, regulating, and supporting services to humans and play a pivotal role in sustaining freshwater-dependent ecosystems. However, an increase in human population coupled with economic growth in the last few decades has severely affected their functioning and ecological health. This has led to an increase in concentrations of pollutants originating from anthropogenic activities such as heavy metals, plastics, semi-volatile organic compounds, and endocrine disruptors.

In modern plant breeding, genomic selection is becoming the gold standard to select superior genotypes in large breeding populations that are only partially phenotyped. Many breeding programs commonly rely on single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers to capture genome-wide data for selection candidates. For this purpose, SNP arrays with moderate to high marker density represent a robust and cost-effective tool to generate reproducible, easy-to-handle, high-throughput genotype data from large-scale breeding populations.

Multi-locus genome-wide association studies reveal the genetic architecture of head blight resistance in durum wheat.

Durum wheat is more susceptible to Fusarium head blight (FHB) than other types or classes of wheat. The disease is one of the most devastating in wheat; it reduces yield and end-use quality and contaminates the grain with fungal mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol (DON). A panel of 265 Canadian and European durum wheat cultivars, as well as breeding and experimental lines, were tested in artificially inoculated field environments (2019-2022, inclusive) and two greenhouse trials (2019 and 2020).

Genotype Study of Filaggrin Gene Loss-of-Function Mutations in Central India Population with Atopic Dermatitis and Ichthyosis Vulgaris.

Background: A genotype study of filaggrin gene loss-of-function mutations in central India can provide valuable insights into the prevalence and association of these mutations with atopic dermatitis (AD) and ichthyosis vulgaris (IV) in the region. The R501X and 2282del4 are both genetic variants in the human gene called filaggrin gene (), which encodes a protein that plays an important role in the formation and maintenance of the skin barrier. In this study, we determined the R501X and 2282del4 variants association with both AD and IV in Central Indian populations.

Primary ductal adenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland with sarcomatoid differentiation: case report and genomic analysis.

We describe a case of primary ductal adenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland with novel histopathological characteristics corresponding to a biphasic growth course and provide a comprehensive genomic profile of this malignancy. A 39-year-old male with a history of slowly progressive unilateral proptosis and hypoglobus presented after 1 month of hyperacute exacerbation. Orbital imaging revealed a superior mass with osseous erosion.

Methods for objective assessment of skin involvement in systemic sclerosis.

Purpose Of Review: Skin fibrosis is the most prominent disease manifestation of systemic sclerosis (SSc). Although the treatment for other SSc manifestations has expanded over the years, there is limited progress in identifying effective treatment options for SSc skin involvement. This is in part due to limitations in the utilized outcome measures for assessment of skin fibrosis.

Impact of stabilizing mutations on the antigenic profile and glycosylation of membrane-expressed HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein.

Recent HIV-1 vaccine development has centered on "near native" soluble envelope glycoprotein (Env) trimers that are artificially stabilized laterally (between protomers) and apically (between gp120 and gp41). These mutations have been leveraged for use in membrane-expressed Env mRNA vaccines, although their effects in this context are unclear. To address this question, we used virus-like particle (VLP) produced in 293T cells.

Gene cloning in repeat-rich polyploid genomes remains challenging. Here, we describe a strategy for overcoming major bottlenecks in cloning of the powdery mildew resistance gene (R-gene) Pm69 derived from tetraploid wild emmer wheat. A conventional positional cloning approach was not effective owing to suppressed recombination.

Analysis of Changes in Electrolytes Level in Serum After Death and Its Correlation With Postmortem Interval.

Background Apropos estimation of postmortem interval is an important and difficult task for forensic pathologists. In routine practice, postmortem interval is deduced by conventional or physical methods such as early and late postmortem changes, which are subjective methods and prone to errors. Estimating time since death by thanatochemistry is a more objective method as compared to routine conventional or physical methods.

Subretinal Abscess Complicated by Post-infectious Retinal Vasculitis Following Strabismus Surgery.

An 8-year-old girl presented with a subretinal abscess after strabismus surgery. This was treated successfully with medial rectus suture removal, pars plana vitrectomy, intravitreal antibiotics, and intravenous antibiotics. Recovery was complicated by acute post-infectious retinal vasculitis after tapering high-dose corticosteroids, requiring an extended corticosteroid regimen over 2 months until resolution.

Central Retinal Artery Occlusion with Concomitant Intracranial Hemorrhage Secondary to Endocarditis.
