Background: Assessing the difficulty of impacted lower third molar (ILTM) surgical extraction is crucial for predicting postoperative complications and estimating procedure duration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a convolutional neural network (CNN) in determining the angulation, position, classification and difficulty index (DI) of ILTM. Additionally, we compared these parameters and the time required for interpretation among deep learning (DL) models, sixth-year dental students (DSs), and general dental practitioners (GPs) with and without CNN assistance.

Plasma nitriding is one of the surface modifications that show more effectiveness than other methods. In this study, the plasma-based ion implantation (PBII) technique was performed on the surface of titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V, Ti64) using a mixture of nitrogen (N) and argon (Ar), resulting in a plasma-nitrided surface (TiN-Ti64). The surface composition of the TiN-Ti64 was verified through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Objective:  The aim of this study was to employ artificial intelligence (AI) via convolutional neural network (CNN) for the separation of oral lichen planus (OLP) and non-OLP in biopsy-proven clinical cases of OLP and non-OLP.

Materials And Methods:  Data comprised of clinical photographs of 609 OLP and 480 non-OLP which diagnosis has been confirmed histopathologically. Fifty-five photographs from the OLP and non-OLP groups were randomly selected for use as the test dataset, while the remaining were used as training and validation datasets.

The primary treatment for head and neck cancer is radiotherapy, which can cause complications and effects, such as the ability to speak, taste, produce saliva, and swallow. An oral stent is an immobilization tool for minimizing the dose in the tongue (or hard palate) by locking the tongue position during radiation delivery. It can improve the treatment accuracy due to less uncertainty caused by tongue position uncertainty between treatment fractions.

Article Synopsis
  • Direct pulp capping is a dental treatment for small pulp exposures aimed at preserving tooth vitality, and this study compares four materials: DyCal, ProRoot MTA, Biodentine™, and TheraCal™ LC.
  • The research involved testing the effects of these materials on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPs) in terms of cytotoxicity, proliferation, migration, and differentiation.
  • Results showed that ProRoot MTA and Biodentine™ were less toxic and promoted better cell growth and mineralization than DyCal and TheraCal™ LC, indicating their superior capacity for dental tissue regeneration.
