In rodents, binge-like EtOH exposure during the first week of life (equivalent to the third trimester of human pregnancy) triggers apoptosis in these brain regions. We hypothesized that this effect induces long-lasting alterations in the function of RSC-projecting ATN neurons.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine condition that impacts nutritional status, metabolic, and hormonal function in females of reproductive age. This condition is associated with increased androgen production (hyperandrogenism) and decreased insulin sensitivity, which often leads to insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. This increase in androgen production and insulin resistance is strongly associated with a high incidence of obesity, type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and certain types of gonad-related cancers among females who suffer from this condition.

The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected migrant farmworker communities in the United States in case rates and deaths. In rural Immokalee, Florida, human rights, health care, and social support organizations with different strengths joined together to form a coalition that provided health information, tests, vaccines, and social supports. This report offers practical advice on how similar coalitions can overcome barriers to care, improve outcomes, and overall increase trust in the health system.

Eggshell membrane treatment for the healing of superficial open wounds in mice.

Introduction: Eggshell membranes offer beneficial properties for tissue regeneration and their biomedical applications are important. Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of hen unfertilized eggshell membranes in the treatment of superficial open wounds in mice compared to the conventional procedure. Materials and methods: 15-mm linear wounds were made on the back of 10 male CF-1 mice.

Experimental data on developmental elimination of retrosplenial cortex GABAergic interneurons in a mouse model of ethanol exposure during the last trimester of human pregnancy.

It has been previously shown that 40% of murine cortical interneurons are eliminated via apoptosis during the first two weeks of postnatal development [1], [2], [3]. Here, we report data on the effect of ethanol exposure on this process in a mouse model of binge-like alcohol exposure during last trimester of human pregnancy (equivalent to the first postnatal week in mice). We used transgenic mice that express the Venus fluorescent protein in GABAergic interneurons under the control of the vesicular GABA transporter promoter (VGAT-Venus mice) [4].

Phylogenomic analysis of evolutionary relationships in Ranitomeya poison frogs (Family Dendrobatidae) using ultraconserved elements.

The use of genome-scale data in phylogenetics has enabled recent strides in determining the relationships between taxa that are taxonomically problematic because of extensive morphological variation. Here, we employ a phylogenomic approach to infer evolutionary relationships within Ranitomeya (Anura: Dendrobatidae), an Amazonian lineage of poison frogs consisting of 16 species with remarkable diversity in color pattern, range size, and parental care behavior. We infer phylogenies with all described species of Ranitomeya from ultraconserved nuclear genomic elements (UCEs) and also estimate divergence times.

Health-Related Quality of Life for Patients Receiving Tumor Treating Fields for Glioblastoma.

Background: To date, there has been no large-scale, real-world study of the health-related quality of life outcomes for patients using tumor treating fields (TTFields) therapy for glioblastoma (GBM) treatment.

Methods: A survey was mailed to 2,815 patients actively using TTFields for treatment of GBM in the USA ( = 2,182) and Europe ( = 633). The survey included patient-reported demographic and clinical information, as well as EuroQol's EQ-5D-5L and visual analogue scale (EQ-VAS) overall health score.

Persistent myelin abnormalities in a third trimester-equivalent mouse model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.

Background: Abnormal diffusion within white matter (WM) tracts has been linked to cognitive impairment in children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Whether changes to myelin organization and structure underlie the observed abnormal diffusion patterns remains unknown. Using a third trimester-equivalent mouse model of alcohol exposure, we previously demonstrated acute loss of oligodendrocyte lineage cells with persistent loss of myelin basic protein and lower fractional anisotropy (FA) in the corpus callosum (CC).

We report here five new localities across the distribution of the lizard , extending its current geographic range to the west, in the Cordillera Central of Hispaniola. We also report phenotypic variation in the color pattern and scutellation on throat and pelvic regions of males from both eastern and western populations, which is described below. Furthermore, based on these new data, we confirm that the species is not fitting in its current IUCN category, and in consequence propose updating its conservation status.
