The routine use of preoperative group and save (G&S) blood tests in emergency laparoscopic appendicectomies has been a standard yet often unquestioned practice. However, with the advancements in laparoscopic techniques and the low risk of intraoperative bleeding, is this precaution necessary? Analysing 276 emergency appendicectomy cases over a year, our study revealed that no transfusions were required due to surgical complications. Nevertheless, routine G&S testing causes considerable financial and resource strains, consuming valuable time and delaying treatment.

We assessed the non-inferiority and the lot-to-lot consistency of a pentavalent meningococcal ACYWX conjugate vaccine (NmCV-5; Serum Institute of India, Pune, India) versus a quadrivalent meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine (MenACWY-D) in healthy adults.
Methods: In this observer-blind, randomised, active-controlled, phase 2/3 study, healthy adults aged 18-85 years were recruited from nine hospitals across seven cities in India.

The Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé (GBB) reaction is a well-established three-component reaction for synthesizing imidazofused scaffolds from heterocyclic amidines, aldehydes, and isonitriles. However, the replacement of pyridoxal as an aldehyde component in this reaction results in the formation of the furo[2,3-]pyridine skeleton as an "unusual GBB product". Despite the interesting nature of this unusual reaction, not much work was further reported.
