Background: In Vietnam, PrEP was introduced in 2017 and scaled up from 2019. Private sector engagement (PSE) in PrEP service delivery was deployed as a strategy from the start to increase PrEP access. We assessed the effectiveness of this approach to inform ongoing efforts to accelerate epidemic control by 2030.

Purpose: To assess the trigeminal blink reflex in chronic orbital pain and its modification by orbital anesthetic injections using a novel blink reflexometer.

Methods: The EyeStat (Generation 3, Blinktbi, Inc. Charleston, SC) is a device that triggers and analyzes the carbon dioxide puff-evoked trigeminal blink response.

eDNA-Based Survey of Fish Species in Water Bodies Using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) for Application of Developing Automatic Sampler.

The monitoring of species in a habitat is important to ensure biological diversity. Environmental DNA (eDNA) can infer the presence-absence of species and enable rapid action to avoid threatening factors in ecosystems in the case of non-indigenous species. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assays for molecular amplification are rapidly gaining popularity in species detection, but LAMP remains an underutilized method for eDNA-based monitoring practices.

Pseudo-pigmented choroidal schwannoma with extraocular extension in an elderly patient.

Purpose: To describe a rare case of clinically pigmented choroidal schwannoma with extraocular extension in an elderly patient.

Observations: We report a case of a 79-year-old Black male who presented with a clinically pigmented, juxtapapillary choroidal tumor with concern for extraocular extension on standardized ocular echography. The lesion was concerning for choroidal melanoma with extraocular extension.

Describing a novel, national, vertical mentorship program for women in emergency medicine across Canada.

Mentorship models deviating from traditional staff-student dyads are beginning to emerge, and the CAEP Women in Emergency Medicine (WEM) Committee has implemented a novel, vertical mentorship program in the hopes of increasing mentorship accessibility across Canada for students, residents, and attending physicians. The vertical mentorship consisted of an attending physician, resident, and medical student all practicing or interested in EM. Groups were created based on location or niche preference.

Real-world analysis of afatinib as a first-line treatment for patients with advanced stage non-small-cell lung cancer with uncommon EGFR mutations: a multicenter study in Vietnam.

Background: Afatinib is indicated for advanced-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) and uncommon mutations. However, real-world studies on this topic are limited. This study aimed to evaluate afatinib as first-line therapy for locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC with uncommon EGFR mutations.

Perceptions of gender equity in emergency medicine in Canada.

Introduction: Women-identifying emergency physicians face gender-based discrimination throughout their careers. The purpose of this study was to explore emergency physician's perceptions and experiences of gender equity in emergency medicine.

Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of data from a previously conducted survey of Canadian emergency physicians on barriers to gender equity in emergency medicine.

Retrospective Optimization of the Hawkeye Orbital Fracture Prioritization and Evaluation Algorithms for Triaging Ophthalmic Care.

Objectives: Many orbital fracture patients are transferred to tertiary care centers for immediate ophthalmology consultation, though few require urgent ophthalmic evaluation or intervention. This overutilizes limited resources and overburdens patients and the health care system with travel and emergency department (ED) expenses. A simple, easy-to-use, clinical decision-making tool is needed to aid local EDs and triage services in effectively identifying orbital fracture patients who need urgent ophthalmic evaluation.

Quantitative Assessment of Subjective Symptoms and Corneal Sensitivity in Chronic Orbital Pain Patients.

Purpose: To objectively evaluate the subjective symptoms and characteristics of chronic orbital pain as well as to quantify sensitization of peripheral trigeminal nerves.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, patients who previously showed a response to peripheral trigeminal nerve blocks for unilateral, idiopathic chronic orbital pain and healthy subjects completed validated questionnaires assessing headaches, neuropathic signs and symptoms, photophobia, and pain qualities. Corneal sensitivity was measured in both eyes for all subjects with a Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer.

Effect of Blood Gel Derivatives on Wound Healing in Mouse Injured Tissue Models.

Several previous studies in the field of assisted reproduction have focused on the use of blood gel derivatives, such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), as a treatment for endometrial rehabilitation. However, the ability to release growth factors and the gel form of this product led to the evolution of platelet lysates. In this study, blood gel derivatives, including PRF lysate, which was in liquid form, and PRF gel, were collected and evaluated for growth factors.

Colour perception develops throughout childhood with increased risk of deficiencies in children born prematurely.

Aim: To quantify the impact of prematurity on chromatic discrimination throughout childhood, from 2 to 15 years of age.

Methods: We recruited two cohorts of children, as part of the TrackAI Project, an international project with seven different study sites: a control group of full-term children with normal visual development and a group of children born prematurely. All children underwent a complete ophthalmological exam and an assessment of colour discrimination along the three colour axes: deutan, protan and trytan using a DIVE device with eye tracking technology.

SHoC-IVC: Does assessment of the inferior vena cava by point-of-care ultrasound independently predict fluid status in spontaneously breathing patients with undifferentiated hypotension?

Background: Accurately determining the fluid status of a patient during resuscitation in the emergency department (ED) helps guide appropriate fluid administration in the setting of undifferentiated hypotension. Our goal was to determine the diagnostic utility of point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) for inferior vena cava (IVC) size and collapsibility in predicting a volume overload fluid status in spontaneously breathing hypotensive ED patients.

Methods: This was a post hoc secondary analysis of the SHOC-ED data, a prospective randomized controlled trial investigating PoCUS in patients with undifferentiated hypotension.

Perfluoroalkyl substances in food contact materials: preliminary investigation in Vietnam and global comparison.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a group of concerned persistent toxic substances, especially for their application or unintentional formation in food contact materials (FCMs). However, information about the occurrence, sources, and fate of these pollutants in food packaging materials from Vietnam as well as Southeast Asian countries is probably still obscured. In this study, levels of 13 perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) and 4 sulfonates (PFSs) were determined in various types of food packaging samples collected from Vietnamese markets.

Purpose: To better characterize the frequency and patterns of hearing dysfunction in patients who have received teprotumumab to treat thyroid eye disease.

Participants: Patients who underwent audiology testing before and after completion of teprotumumab infusions.

Clinical features and outcome of retinoblastoma at the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.

Objectives: To characterize the clinical features, treatment, and outcome of children diagnosed with retinoblastoma (RB) at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.

Methods: The study enrolled all RB patients newly diagnosed at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital from January 2018 to December 2022. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) and the eye salvage rate.

Transcutaneous retrobulbar amphotericin B for rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis: a multi-center retrospective comparative study.

Purpose: To assess whether transcutaneous retrobulbar amphotericin B injections (TRAMB) reduce exenteration rate without increasing mortality in rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM).

Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, 46 patients (51 eyes) with biopsy-proven ROCM were evaluated at 9 tertiary care institutions from 1998 to 2021. Patients were stratified by radiographic evidence of local orbital versus extensive involvement at presentation.

The Hsp70 families have been reported in many plant species, unfortunately, no information on this important protein family in papaya (<i>Carica papaya</i>). The objective of this study was to provide comprehensive information on the CpHsp70 family in papaya.

Neural activation associated with outgroup helping in adolescent rats.

Prosocial behavior, helping others in need in particular, occurs preferentially in response to the perceived distress of one's own group members or ingroup. To investigate the development of ingroup bias, neural activity during a helping test was analyzed in adolescent and adult rats. Although adults selectively released trapped ingroup members, adolescent rats helped both ingroup and outgroup members, suggesting that ingroup bias emerges in adulthood.

The Effect of Teprotumumab on Eyelid Position in Patients with Thyroid Eye Disease.

Teprotumumab has been shown to improve proptosis and clinical activity scores (CAS) in patients with thyroid eye disease, but little has been published regarding its effects on eyelid retraction. The purpose of this work was to evaluate changes in eyelid position in thyroid eye disease patients after teprotumumab. Eight patients completed eight cycles of teprotumumab.

Chronic invasive fungal sinusitis with orbital and olfactory cleft involvement secondary to indolent mucormycosis.

Purpose: Chronic invasive fungal sinusitis secondary to indolent mucormycosis is a rare clinical entity, and the ideal management is controversial. A case of indolent mucormycosis successfully managed with conservative debridement and retrobulbar amphotericin B is herein reported.

Observations: A 42-year-old man with diabetes mellitus and kidney transplant presented with chronic invasive fungal sinusitis with left orbital involvement from indolent mucormycosis.
