Background & Aims: Body composition is an objective assessment reflecting nutritional status and is highly gender different. Surgical resection, the standard treatment for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is an energy-consuming major operation that would affect body composition. However, the impacts of body composition on the post-operative prognosis of HCC are still uncertain.

Here, we test the hypothesis that this theta paradox can be explained by non-oscillatory, aperiodic neural activity dynamics. Because traditional time-frequency analyses of electroencephalopgraphy (EEG) data conflate oscillations and aperiodic activity, event-related changes in aperiodic activity can manifest as task-related changes in apparent oscillations, even when none are present.

The treatment guidelines for depression recommends either psychotherapy, such as behavioral activation (BA), or a second-generation antidepressant as a first-line treatment for adult patients with depression. However, many individuals with depression do not experience improvement from first-line treatments or choose not to engage in them due to stigma, cost, difficulty with access, and/or side effects.

We demonstrated the mapping of thousands of antigen-antibody interactions between diverse antibody libraries isolated from convalescent and vaccinated COVID-19 donors and a set of clinically relevant SARS-CoV-2 spike variants. We identified over 150 antibodies with a variety of distinctive binding patterns toward the antigen variants and found a broader binding profile, including targeting of the Omicron variant, in the antibody repertoires of more recent donors.

COVID-19 remains a global public health issue and an improved understanding of vaccine performance in immunocompromised individuals, including people living with HIV (PLWH), is needed. Initial data from the present study's pre-crossover/booster phase were previously reported. This phase 2a/b clinical trial in South Africa (2019nCoV-501/NCT04533399) revisits 1:1 randomly assigned HIV-negative adults (18-84 years) and medically stable PLWH (18-64 years) who previously received two NVX-CoV2373 doses (5 μg recombinant Spike protein with 50 μg Matrix-M™ adjuvant) or placebo.

Using chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing combined with genome-wide association analysis, we uncovered a developmental regulator that controls both types of trait while acting upstream of multiple domestication loci. tasselsheath4 (tsh4) is a new maize domestication gene that establishes developmental boundaries and specifies meristem fates despite not being expressed within them.

Here, we describe the potentiation of insulin secretion in pancreatic islets and INS-1 cells through methyl 2-(2-ethoxy-1-hydroxy-2-oxoethyl)-1-(pyrimidine-2-yl)-1H-indole-3-carboxylate (HI 129), a novel indole derivative. Treatment with HI 129 led to notably decreased ADP/ATP ratios in pancreatic islets and INS-1 cells compared to those in the vehicle-treated controls, indicating a shift in cellular ATP production.

Tumor cells with TP53 missense mutations exhibit enhanced growth and survival through transcriptional rewiring. To delineate how TP53 mutations in breast cancer contribute to tumorigenesis and progression in vivo, we created a somatic mouse model driven by mammary epithelial cell-specific expression of Trp53 mutations.

We address two key challenges in scaling models with neural time-series data: sparse and variable electrode distribution across subjects and datasets. The Population Transformer (PopT) stacks on top of pretrained representations and enhances downstream decoding by enabling learned aggregation of multiple spatially-sparse data channels.

Expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) mapping can help in studying this relationship but have been shown to be very cell-type specific, motivating the use of single-cell RNA sequencing and single-cell eQTLs to obtain a more granular view of genetic regulation. Current methods for single-cell eQTL mapping either rely on the "pseudobulk" approach and traditional pipelines for bulk transcriptomics or do not scale well to large datasets.

Functional enrichment analyses of these results suggest that the associations for any given complex trait are not purely random. Thus, we set out to leverage the genetic association results from many traits with a view to identifying the set of modules, or latent factors, that mediate these associations.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are common risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and are closely associated with metabolic comorbidities, including obesity and diabetes. The TP53 tumor suppressor is the most frequently mutated gene in liver cancers, with half of these alterations being missense mutations.

Existing BMIs have trade-offs across invasiveness, performance, spatial coverage and spatiotemporal resolution. Functional ultrasound (fUS) neuroimaging is an emerging technology that balances these attributes and may complement existing BMI recording technologies.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of liver surgery and define the selection criteria for surgical candidates in patients with SCRLM + SEHD.
Methods: Between July 2007 and October 2018, 475 patients with colorectal cancer with liver metastases (CRLM) who underwent liver resection were retrospectively reviewed.
The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants has significantly reduced the efficacy of some approved vaccines. A fourth dose of NVX-CoV2373 (5 µg SARS-CoV-2 recombinant spike [rS] protein + 50 µg Matrix-M™ adjuvant; Novavax, Gaithersburg, MD) was evaluated to determine induction of cross-reactive antibodies to variants of concern. A phase II randomized study (NCT04368988) recruited participants in Australia and the United States to assess a primary series of NVX-CoV2373 followed by two booster doses (third and fourth doses at 6-month intervals) in adults 18-84 years of age.

As SARS-CoV-2 moves into endemic status, vaccination remains a key element in protecting the health of individuals, societies, and economies worldwide.
Areas Covered: NVX-CoV2373 (Novavax, Gaithersburg, MD) is a recombinant protein vaccine composed of SARS-CoV-2 spike trimer nanoparticles formulated with saponin-based Matrix-M™ adjuvant (Novavax, Gaithersburg, MD).
Background: NVX-CoV2373 is an efficacious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine comprising full-length recombinant severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike (rS) glycoprotein and Matrix-M adjuvant. Phase 2 of a randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 1/2 trial in healthy adults (18-84 years of age) previously reported good safety/tolerability and robust humoral immunogenicity.
Methods: Participants were randomized to placebo or 1 or 2 doses of 5-µg or 25-µg rS with 50 µg Matrix-M adjuvant 21 days apart.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death in Taiwan, and in the past 30-40 years, Taiwan has been committed to its prevention and treatment. We aimed to investigate the secular trends of characteristics and the survival of HCC in recent decades after making increased efforts. Between 2011 and 2019, a total of 73,817 cases were enrolled from the TCR database.

We assessed the performance of monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) as a diagnostic biomarker and constructed a clinical prediction score to improve specificity of TB diagnosis in CHIV with limited access to microbiologic testing.
Methods: We pooled data from cohorts of children aged ≤13 years from Vietnam, Cameroon, and South Africa to validate the use of MLR ≥0.
