French validation of the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QoL).

Objective: To adapt the SS-QoL into French and test its psychometric properties.

Methods: Seventy-seven patients from a population-based registry were enrolled 3 months after their stroke. SS-QoL, NIHSS score, Barthel index, HAD, FSS, SF-36 scales, and MMSE were administered at enrolment.

Medical thrillers have been a mainstay of popular fiction since the late 1970s and still attract a wide readership today. This article examines this specialized genre and its core conventions within the context of professionally-based fiction, i.e.

Objectives: English classes were made compulsory in French medical schools by a 1992 statute. The aim of this work is to describe current characteristics of this teaching program.

Methods: A questionnaire designed by experts in the teaching of medical English was sent to the 41 medical schools in metropolitan France.

[Events in the lives of 120 chronic alcoholics. Preliminary study].

We have applied, with necessary modifications, life-events methodology, to the study of nature and temporal distribution of life-events occurring in 120 chronic alcoholics. Total number and distribution of life events undergo some variations with age, sex, ethnic group and socio-professional level in chronic alcoholics. We have specially analysed the temporal curve of life events before, during and after the year of beginning alcohol abuse.

Effects upon the EEG of psychometric performance during deep dives in helium--oxygen atmosphere.

A study of EEG modifications and psychometric performances was performed during two dives in hyperbarbic chambers with a helium--oxygen breathing mixture (pO2 maintained at 0.4 ATA). The depths attained were 500 m for the first experiment (Sagittaire II) and 610 m for the second (Physalie VI).
