- The study aimed to evaluate how different types of drug-eluting stents (DES) affect blood vessel function in pigs, both in living subjects and in lab conditions.
- Both sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) and paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) showed no significant impact on blood flow response to certain substances in vivo and did not change the vasodilation process in lab tests.
- However, after blocking nitric oxide, PES displayed a reduced response in small arteries, suggesting that it may specifically affect certain endothelial functions when nitric oxide availability is low.
