Introduction: Despite treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs), achieving effective glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains a challenge. The objective of this post hoc analysis of data from the SUSTAIN 2, 3, 4 and 10 active-controlled trials was to assess the efficacy and safety of the once-weekly glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) semaglutide in patients on background treatment with metformin (MET), with or without a sulphonylurea (SU).

Methods: Data from the randomised phase 3 trials SUSTAIN 2, 3, 4 and 10 for subjects who received background MET alone or MET + SU were analysed.

Background: Leakage is a major concern for people who use a stoma, but people's experience and its impact is not well understood. This study aimed to establish a definition of leakage through clinical and user input. This information was used to develop and validate a new measurement tool to understand the impact of leakage for people using a stoma appliance, in the UK, US, France, and Denmark.

Aims: Liraglutide reduces bodyweight in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying this effect.

Methods: The comparative effects of liraglutide, glimepiride and placebo on energy intake, appetite, nausea, gastric emptying, antral distension, bodyweight, gastrointestinal hormones, fasting plasma glucose and resting energy expenditure (REE), were assessed in subjects with T2DM randomised to treatment A (liraglutide-placebo), B (placebo-glimepiride) or C (glimepiride-liraglutide).

Introduction: Acetaminophen is a commonly used analgesic and antipyretic drug, and is frequently used to study gastric emptying. Due to its high permeability and high solubility, acetaminophen can be used as a pharmacologic model for medications with similar characteristics. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of liraglutide on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of acetaminophen in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Introduction: Fasting and postprandial plasma glucose (FPG, PPG) control are both necessary to achieve glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA(1c)) regulation goals. Liraglutide, based on its glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1)-mediated pharmacology and pharmacokinetics may reduce HbA(1c) through both FPG and PPG levels. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of once-daily liraglutide (0.

Liraglutide is a once-daily human GLP-1 analog for treatment of type 2 diabetes. Like other GLP-1 analogs, liraglutide delays gastric emptying, which could potentially affect absorption of concomitantly administered oral drugs. This study investigated the effect of liraglutide on the pharmacokinetics of the components of an oral contraceptive (ethinyl estradiol/levonorgestrel).

Aims: To compare the pharmacokinetics (PK) of a single-dose of liraglutide in subjects with hepatic impairment.

Methods: This parallel group, open label trial involved four groups of six subjects with healthy, mild, moderate and severe hepatic impairment, respectively. Each subject received 0.

What Is Already Known About This Subject: * Patients with Type 2 diabetes are likely to have or to develop renal impairment, which affects the pharmacokinetics of some antidiabetic treatments. * Whether dosing of the once-daily human glucagon-like peptide-1 analogue liraglutide should be modified in patients with renal impairment has not previously been studied.

What This Study Adds: * Renal dysfunction was not found to increase the exposure of liraglutide.

We examined whether a multifactorial intervention with personal treatment goals had a different effect on men's and women's HbA1c, knowledge, attitude towards illness, lifestyle, and social support in a randomized controlled trial including 874 newly-diagnosed patients with diabetes > or = 40 years. After six years women who received routine care had 1.10 times higher HbA1c and fewer consultations than women in the intervention group.

Objective: Diabetic men and women differ in lifestyle and attitudes toward diabetes and may benefit differently from interventions to improve glycemic control. We explored the relation between HbA1c (A1C), sex, treatment allocation, and their interactions with behavioral and attitudinal characteristics in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: Six years after their diabetes diagnosis, a population-based sample of 874 primary care patients cluster-randomized to receive structured personal care or routine care reported lifestyle, medication, social support, diabetes-related consultations, and attitudes toward diabetes.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine how many women use alternative medicine to alleviate menopausal symptoms and how often they feel relieved of those symptoms. We also examined whether there was a negative correlation between the use of alternative medicine and the use of hormone therapy, as well as whether there was any correlation between the use of alternative medicine and self-rated health status.

Materials And Methods: An anonymous postal questionnaire was sent to 5,300 women older than 44 years in Roskilde County, Denmark.

Introduction: Middle-aged women are often faced with the dilemma of whether to use hormone therapy or not. Until recently, advertisements, as well as, very often, the scientific literature, advocated the use of hormone therapy. The aim of this study was to determine women's use of hormone therapy and its correlation with age, self-rated health status and lifestyle factors.

Environmental exposures are important for development of allergic contact dermatitis, but genetic factors have been proposed to be of additional importance for contact sensitization. Recently genetic factors were shown to be of significance for hand eczema. In this study, a sample of twins recruited on the basis of hand eczema has been evaluated with respect to influence of genetic factors on development of nickel sensitization.

Twin pairs are sometimes included in studies because at least one of them is a proband, and conventionally the analysis of the data is based on the conditional distribution of the co twin given the proband. In the case of more than one proband in each pair, an often used "ad hoc" method of analysis is to allow each twin to act as proband as well as co twin. An example of this is the pro band wise concordance, which is used as an estimate of the case wise concordance under incomplete ascertainment.
