Mechanisms of impact of web-based support and self-monitoring to augment and maintain physical activity levels: a qualitative study exploring participants' interactions with the e-coachER, a web-based support programme for people attending exercise referral schemes.

Objectives: e-coachER was a web-based intervention designed to support uptake and maintenance of physical activity for people attending exercise referral schemes (ERS) for weight loss, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis or a history of depression/low mood. The aim of this study was to explore the mechanisms of impact of the e-coachER intervention, specifically how participants interacted with e-coachER and the key mediators of increased physical activity.

Design: This was a qualitative one-on-one interview study.

Anti-dsDNA IgE: a potential non-invasive test for prediction of lupus nephritis relapse.

Objectives: Discontinuation or continuation of maintenance immunosuppressive therapy (MIST) after a severe lupus nephritis (LN) requires measuring the risk of relapse but reliable clinical and biological markers are lacking. The WIN-IgE study assesses the value of serum anti-dsDNA IgE autoantibodies as a biomarker for the prediction of relapse in severe LN.

Methods: WIN-IgE is an ancillary study of the WIN-Lupus study (NCT01284725), a prospective controlled clinical trial which evaluated the discontinuation of MIST after 2-3 years in class III or IV±V LN with active lesions.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by anti-nuclear autoantibodies whose production is promoted by autoreactive T follicular helper (TFH) cells. During SLE pathogenesis, basophils accumulate in secondary lymphoid organs (SLO), amplify autoantibody production and disease progression through mechanisms that remain to be defined. Here, we provide evidence for a direct functional relationship between TFH cells and basophils during lupus pathogenesis, both in humans and mice.

Introduction: Triple burden of malnutrition in children remains a significant public health issue. This scoping review aims to assess the information on undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and the quality of complementary feeding in various regions in Nigeria.

Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar databases from January 1, 2018 to January 31, 2023 to include studies focusing on 0 to 5 years old children in Nigeria, reporting data on nutritional status, nutrient deficiencies, and published in English.

The Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD; Salekin in Pers Disord: Theory Res Treat 7:180-191, 2016) scale was designed to assess interrelated psychopathic trait domains in conjunction with symptoms of Conduct Disorder (CD) in children and adolescents (i.e., grandiose-manipulative, callous-unemotional, daring-impulsive).

Impact of volume and rate of milk delivery on coordination of respiration and swallowing in infant pigs.

The coordination of respiration and swallowing is a life-critical function in infants. Varying volume and rate of milk delivery changes swallowing frequency and bolus volume but any impact on swallow-respiration coordination is unknown. Five infant pigs were filmed with simultaneous high speed videofluoroscopy and plethysmography while feeding from an automatic system delivering milk across a range of volumes and frequencies.

Autoreactive IgE: Pathogenic role and therapeutic target in autoimmune diseases.

Autoimmunity is the break of tolerance to self-antigens that leads to organ-specific or systemic diseases often characterized by the presence of pathogenic autoreactive antibodies (AAb) produced by plasmablast and/or plasma cells. AAb are prevalent in the general population and not systematically associated with clinical symptoms. In contrast, in some individuals, these AAb are pathogenic and drive the development of signs and symptoms of antibody-mediated autoimmune diseases (AbAID).

Lupus activity and outcomes in lupus patients undergoing maintenance dialysis.

Objectives: Lupus activity has long been considered to decline after initiation of maintenance dialysis (MD). This assumption is based on limited historical data. We aimed to describe the natural history of lupus in patients undergoing MD.

Miniature Palpebral Plexiform Neurofibroma in Neurofibromatosis Type 2.

A 27-year-old woman with well-documented neurofibromatosis 2 developed a soft, painless, nodular lesion on the skin surface of the left upper eyelid over 2 years. Following excision, histopathology revealed a plexiform neurofibroma with intradermal nodules comprised of benign round and spindle cells that reacted diffusely with immunohistochemical stains SOX-10 and S100. A subset showed focal reactivity for neurofilament and CD34.

Psychometric Properties of the MMPI-3 in a Sample of Black and White American Undergraduate Students: Examining Group Differences and Convergent/Discriminant Validity with the ASEBA Adult Self-Report.

The current study examined MMPI-3 internal and external psychometric properties with a focus on the impact of racialized group membership (Black and White Americans). The second aim was to examine convergent/discriminant MMPI-3 scale associations with a different broadband, hierarchical self-report assessment tool [Adult Self-Report (ASR)]. Consistent with findings on prior MMPI iterations, we expected to observe no clinically meaningful mean differences on MMPI-3 scale T-scores.

Eccrine Cyst (Hidrocystoma) of the Inner Canthus: A Rare Entity With Immunohistologic Confirmation.

A small ruptured cyst was excised from the left inner canthus of a 68-year-old woman. Histopathology displayed a cyst lined by a double layer of cuboidal epithelium and filled with amorphous material. The lining cells were strongly positive for cytokeratins 5/6 and 14, with weak reactivity with cytokeratin 7.

Impact of BNT162b2 mRNA anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccine on interferon-alpha production by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and autoreactive T cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: The COVALUS project.

Objective: To evaluate the specific response of SLE patients to BNT162b2 vaccination and its impact on autoimmunity defined as in vivo production of interferon-alpha (IFNα) by plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and autoreactive immune responses.

Methods: Our prospective study included SLE patients and healthy volunteers (HV) who received 2 doses of BNT162b2 vaccine 4 weeks apart. Subjects under immunosuppressive drugs or with evidence of prior COVID-19 were excluded.

Investigating the leading reasons for primary health care encounters and its implications for health care in Trinidad and Tobago. A systematic review.

This systematic review aims at offering a comparative analysis of the leading reasons for encounters (RFEs) of patients presenting to primary care facilities. A systemic search was carried out using MEDLINE/PUBMED, CINAHL, Google Scholar, LILACS, and PROQUEST to identify the studies relevant to RFEs in primary health care in June 2020. Fifteen studies met the eligibility criteria which included originality, published between 2015 and 2020, listed two to five RFEs at a primary health care facility, and included patients with acute and/or chronic conditions.

Assessment of Virtual Peer Learning by Peer Feedback: A Pilot Project.

Introduction Virtual learning has become the preferred modality for health education during and after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Peer learning is gaining a lot of significance lately and has been successfully tested in various settings. We combined virtual delivery of health education with peer-assisted learning and evaluated the effectiveness using peer-generated feedback and tested the effectiveness of the model for different cohorts.

Here, we circumvent the need for feedback or precise planning by using an array of fluidically actuated slender hollow elastomeric filaments to actively entangle with objects that vary in geometric and topological complexity. The resulting stochastic interactions enable a unique soft and conformable grasping strategy across a range of target objects that vary in size, weight, and shape.

Solitary Intratarsal Blue Nevus.

A 42-year-old woman presented with a small pigmented lesion of the palpebral conjunctiva that had been present for a few months. Because of the possibility of melanoma, the lesion was resected. Microscopic examination displayed an intratarsal blue nevus at the level of the meibomian glands comprised of bland nonpigmented and pigmented cells that enveloped a sebaceous gland and its ducts.

CT-M8 Mice: A New Mouse Model Demonstrates That Basophils Have a Nonredundant Role in Lupus-Like Disease Development.

Tissue-specific mouse models are essential tools to decipher the role of each cell compartment and/or their expressed genes in the pathophysiology of diseases. Here, we describe a new knock-in mouse model allowing expression of both the fluorescent protein tdTomato and the CRE recombinase selectively in the basophil compartment under the control of the Mcpt8 gene. These "CT-M8" mice did not show any abnormalities in their peripheral distribution of major immune cell populations nor their basophil function.

Episcleral Apocrine Hidrocystoma Following Strabismus Surgery.

Apocrine hidrocystomas are benign cystic tumors derived from apocrine sweat glands; they are most commonly located in the skin of the head and neck regions. Ophthalmic occurrences typically appear at the lash line and canthi of the eyelid, although rare instances have been described in the conjunctiva, caruncle, and orbit. The authors illustrate an exceptional instance of a mobile episcleral cyst in a 12-year-old girl that developed about 2 years following strabismus surgery.
