Metrics of retinal image quality predict optimal refractive corrections and correlate with visual performance. To date, they do not predict absolutely the relative change in visual performance when aberrations change and therefore need to be a-posteriori rescaled to match relative measurements. Here we demonstrate that a recently proposed metric can be used to predict, in an absolute manner, changes in contrast sensitivity measurements with Sloan letters when aberrations change.

We measure the effect of defocus blur on contrast sensitivity with Sloan letters in the 0.75-2.00 arc min range of letter gaps.

Significance: Previous studies found no correlation between visual acuity and optical quality in a population of young subjects with good vision. Using sinusoidal gratings, we systematically investigate the correlation between contrast sensitivity and optical quality as a function of spatial frequency.

Purpose: This study describes the correlation between the contrast sensitivity function (CSF) and the modulation transfer function (MTF) in a sample of young and informed subjects.

We study the electro optical properties of a Metal-Nitride-Oxide-Silicon (MNOS) stack for a use in CMOS compatible plasmonic active devices. We show that the insertion of an ultrathin stoichiometric Si(3)N(4) layer in a MOS stack lead to an increase in the electrical reliability of a copper gate MNOS capacitance from 50 to 95% thanks to a diffusion barrier effect, while preserving the low optical losses brought by the use of copper as the plasmon supporting metal. An experimental investigation is undertaken at a wafer scale using some CMOS standard processes of the LETI foundry.
